Review | Rimmel Glam Rock collection

The more extravagant my nails, the more natural my eye makeup. Or at least that how it usually goes. Recently I’ve been experimenting with ‘heavier’ looking make up and the Beauty Spells palette from Rimmel is a perfect example. The eye shadow quad is part of Rimmel’s latest Glamrock collection that was released in November. Even though I’m a big sucker for all things glam and sparkly, I wasn’t exactly into the collection at first to be honest. It didn’t seem all that special, you know.. for a Holiday collection. Apart from the polishes, I’d probably have ignored this collection when I saw it in stores. Bad judgement on my part.

Let’s start off by having a look at the Beauty Spells (023) eye shadow quad, the one that almost got away. The palette holds 4 shades: light gray, lilac, brown deep purple and black. All shades contain shimmer in different gradations. The first 3 shades have a satin finish while the black shade is matte and contains some small glitters. The shades are well pigmented and easy to build or blend. They match really well and offer the choice of making either a subtle day look or go glam with a heavy smokey eye.

The back of the palette shows instructions on how to apply both looks. It also mentions the quad complements all eye colours. In my case I think they’ve fulfilled that promise. The palette scores well on the longevity scale too. Even without a primer, the fall-out is limited to a minimum. This one’s going in my stash for sure.

Another product I loved is the ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Sparkling Black. The shade is exactly what the title says;  a deep black with pretty silver sparkles. The creamy texture glides over the skin like butter and once it’s dry, it’s almost impossible to get it off! Water- & smudgeproof? Check!

Then there’s the eye catchers of this collection, the Precious Stones nail polishes in Diamond Dust and Ruby Crush. These got a lot of attention when I wore them and I can see why. Both shades have a transparent texture with a massive amount of shimmer and glitter in them, and then topped with even more glitter, creating an über-glam nail with a rocky diamond-like surface.

Of the two, Diamond Dust is my absolute favorite. It needs 3 layers to get them opaque though. And a top coat for sure! Without one they don’t last longer than a couple of hours on me, which is a pitfall to be able to recommend these as nail polishes you can’t miss. Such a pity.

Rimmel gave it’s Lasting Finish Soft Colour Blushes a make-over. The Union Jack is embossed in the mono powder blush, that has a natural sheer finish with tiny light-reflecting shimmer. It comes in 4 shades. I’ve tested the coral shade, which tends to be rather orange than pink. Because it’s rather sheer, it can also be used for lighter skin tones such as mine. If you have a medium skin tone, you can build the colour up pretty easily to give it a nice glow. It stays put throughout the day which makes me curious about trying other shades (preferably pink/peach ones).

The mono blush comes with a small flat & slightly rounded brush. By reorganizing the bristles you can get the brush to be more rounder and therefore creating a more natural look, whereas using it right away could leave some marks. Or you can simply use your own blush brush.

Last but not least I’d like to introduce you to the new Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Liner in (003) Glossy Black. Besides the fact that our introduction didn’t go that well (hence: clumsy as I am I poked my eye with it and it hurt), this is a great eye liner. The shade is deep black (no green in sight) and well pigmented with a glossy finish, perfect to create a glamorous winged eye. The hard tip which resembles a marker makes it relatively easy to apply in comparison with brushes, even for beginners. Is it waterproof? Well hell-to-the-yeah! This is one of the better budget friendly  liquid eye liners I’ve encountered. Into the stash it goes.

And to finish I included some pics of me wearing the Glam Rock look. Despite the purple shades, I think it looks quite natural (in the sense that it’s not the heavy party look I expected it to be) and I could see myself wearing this every day.

Whoaa LOVE this collection on you!!! I am not a big fan of glitter nail polishes (removing is too painful), but everything else looks cool! The taupe undertone in the quad is probably what tempts me the most!

I have both polishes myself. I don’t usually like glitter polishes because the can be a pain to remove. But since these start to chip fairly quickly I can almost peel them off as if I had used a peel-off base coat ^^. “Een geluk bij een ongeluk”

Yes removing glitter polishes can be a pain! The foil method does the trick for me (I wrote about it a couple of weeks ago)
