Review | Bourjois Healthy Mix Radiance Reveal Foundation

As I’ve mentioned in my post of last week, the L’Oréal Nude Magique Eau De Teint hasn’t been the only foundation in my life lately. Sometimes a sheer foundation just won’t cut it and that’s when I rely on the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation, which was reformulated earlier this year. Promising a healthy glow and a flawless complexion, the new Healthy Mix is enriched with various goodies such as melon for hydration, apple to protect youth, apricot for radiance and crystalline pigments to even out the skin, without creating a mask.

As a person with mixed skin I’d normally skip anything with ‘glow’, ‘radiance’ or ‘dewy’ on it. However I couldn’t ignore the enthusiasm of the blogging community about this foundation so I caved and bought it. Since there are no mirrors in my local Kruidvat (WHY?!), I had the hardest time matching the shades to my own skin tone, so I ended up picking up the two lightest shades: 51 light vanilla and 52 vanilla.

Healthy Mix has a light to medium coverage, which makes it the perfect choice for when you want your skin to look as natural as possible and cover some imperfections (enlarged pores, redness, age spots, acne etc) at the same time. Unlike the Nude Magique Eau De Teint, this foundation has a soft dewy finish, which also works for people with combination skin for once, hooray! I usually powder my T-zone down a bit afterwards with a translucent powder to balance it out. The texture is very lightweight and easy to blend. Furthermore it has great hydrating qualities, which makes me believe this foundation is very similar to BB creams.

Since it has some fruits as ingredients, they made it smell like them too. It’s fresh and very present. I usually don’t react to fragrances, but I can imagine it can be a problem for some. A slightly bigger problem for me (if I don’t use powder over it) is its longevity in the nose/mouth area. Bourjois claims it lasts 16hrs but I’d have to say it lasts around 6-8 hrs on me, which is usually enough. If I need it to last longer I just put powder on top of it, but mostly I’ll just change my makeup into a more appropriate evening look.

In terms of color its a bit of a shame there aren’t any lighter shades (or darker ones). I can make 51 light vanilla work (the one I’m wearing above), but it does look a bit on the yellow side. It can warm up the complexion, so I’d say its a better match in summer than in winter (when I’m even paler). I use 52 vanilla mainly as a sculpting product to give my face a little more definition by adding just a little bit of foundation below the cheek bones with a humid sponge (not shown above).

+ natural looking with dewy finish
+ evens out the skin tone pretty easily
+ hydrating qualities
+ covers imperfections well

– not enough shades
– no SPF
– price tag
– contains a lot of silicones

Overall I love this foundation and it didn’t take me long to repurchase it. The only thing stopping me from crowning this one my absolute favourite drugstore foundation is that I’d probably need just 1 more shade lighter to make it look like my own skin but better during winter time.

The Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation retails for € 14,99 at Ici Paris XL, Di & Kruidvat (BE).

Bourjois is een van mijn favoriete supermarktmerken voor foundation! De 1 2 3 Perfect foundation behoort tot mijn lievelingetjes.

Looks very nice! But I think it won’t fit my oily skin. I don’t like when it’s too shiny.

It looks great, I am definitely going to check it in the store, so light and natural!

Hi, please ignore my earlier comment, not sure why there are + signs in between my words. This is my first time commenting lol.
I have enlarged pores and I can see from the picture that you have them too. Did you find that the foundation pooled in your pores as the day passed or emphasised them in any way? Thanks!

Hi Vanessa, it’s been a while since I last used this foundation but as far as I can remember it didn’t emphasize my pores. If it would, I wouldn’t have repurchased it because as you can see I have enlarged pores in some small areas of my face due to acne. Most of the time I’ll use a primer to even them out and stippling with your brush can help too (instead of swirling around).
