&OtherStories opening in Antwerp

As much as I anticipated my first trip to the Big Apple, I was pretty bummed to find out the opening of the first &OtherStories store in Belgium was taking place in the same week. Luckily I found a co-blogger, Noémie from Le Chat Noir, who was more than willing to take my place and report about the event on StyleLab.

Hoewel ik haast niet kon wachten om naar New York te vertrekken, was de teleurstelling groot toen ik vernam dat de opening van de eerste winkel in België van &OtherStories in dezelfde week plaats zou vinden. Gelukkig vond ik een collega-blogster, Noémie van Le Chat Noir, die bereid was om in mijn plaats een verslag te maken voor StyleLab.

“Let me introduce myself: I ‘m Noémie, blogger for Le Chat Noir and your guest host for this post. Last Wednesday I got the chance to go to the long-awaited opening of the first &Other Stories in Antwerp (Belgium). I was very excited to go because it is one of my favorite shops of all time.

Laat ik mij even voorstellen: ik ben Noémie, blogger voor Le Chat Noir en jullie guest host voor deze post. Afgelopen woensdag kreeg ik de kans om naar de primeur opening te gaan van de langverwachte – en eerste in België – &Other Stories winkel in Antwerpen. Ik was super blij dat ik mocht gaan want het is een van mijn favoriete winkels. 

I discovered the store for the first time on a trip in Barcelona and was immediately impressed by the concept. If you also like beautiful and quality basics and unique pieces with an affordable price then you will – just like I did- fall in love with the store. They’re also known for their collaborations with influential people in the fashion world as Suzy Bubble and the current – very popular – collections of Vika Gazinskaya and Richard Braqo. Besides a clothing line, they also have a very extensive collection of jewelry, shoes, and a great beauty line that you want to take home immediately. I have a particular weakness for the jewelery of & Other Stories. Every collection they succeed to design unique and elegant jewelery with an edgy side. The handbags radiate quality and really can be used as statement pieces.

Ik ontdekte de keten voor het eerst op een citytrip in Barcelona en was meteen onder de indruk van het concept. Als je net als ik van mooie kwaliteitsvolle basics en unieke stukken houdt aan een betaalbare prijs dan zal je net als ik in een oogopslag verliefd worden. De keten staat ook bekend om hun samenwerkingen met invloedrijke mensen in de modewereld zoals Suzy Bubble en huidige – zeer populaire – collecties van Vika Gazinskaya en Richard Braqo. En ze houden het niet enkel bij kledij, ze hebben ook een heel uitgebreide collectie juwelen, schoenen en een heuse beauty-lijn, die je voor de vormgeving alleen al mee naar huis wilt nemen. Ik heb vooral een groot zwak voor de juwelen van &Other Stories. Ze slagen er elke collectie weer in om unieke, elegante juwelen te creeëren met een edgy toets en het aanbod is enorm! De handtassen stralen kwaliteit uit en kunnen echt gebruikt worden als statement pieces.

The beauty department is also very extensive and both Stephanie and me already tested and approved their products! At the departement their is always someone at your service to give you personal advice. I’m a fan of their nail polishes, lipsticks and scented bath products. What I love about & Other Stories is that you can clearly see that they’ve thought about every detail. The packaging and product design makes shopping at their store – for a graphic designer as me – a real treat. Not to mention the interior is really pretty. The shops are decorated with raw materials and original furniture.

De beauty afdeling is eveneens zeer uitgebreid en door zowel Stéphanie en mij getest en goedgekeurd! Op de afdeling is ook altijd iemand aanwezig die je met een glimlach te woord staan en je advies op maat geven. Zelf ben ik fan van hun nagellakken, lipsticks en heerlijk ruikende badproducten. Wat ik geweldig vind aan &Other Stories is dat je duidelijk kan zien dat er over elk detail word nagedacht. De verpakking en vormgeving van producten maakt voor mij winkelen bij hun – met achtergrond als grafisch vormgever  – een ware traktatie. Om nog maar te zwijgen over de interieurkriebels die helemaal gek worden als ik de winkel binnenstap. De winkels zijn strak aangekleed met ruwe materialen en originele meubels. 

Now on to the evening itself. Upon arrival, there was already a line of enthusiastic people waiting in front of the store. Once inside we were received very well with a small bottle – yes you read that right – of champagne or lemonade as desired and everyone got the chance to choose a piece of jewelery as a welcome gift. I was in heaven ! What struck me first was how big the store is. Along with fellow bloggers, we didn’t know where to look first, so many pretty stuff! The line in front of the fitting rooms was getting longer by the minute, so I didn’t had the chance to try on many clothes but I’ll be back. With the 20 % discount we received I obviously could not go out empty-handed, so I focused on the jewellery. However, after a while it was getting very busy in the shop and I decided to go home. I had a great evening surrounded by gorgeous stuff, lovely friends and good drinks, what else do you need?

Nu over de avond zelf. Goed op tijd kwam ik aan, maar er stond reeds een rij dol enthousiaste mensen te wachten. Eens binnen werden we heel goed ontvangen met een klein flesje – ja je leest het goed – champagne of limonade zoals gewenst en kreeg iedereen de kans om zelf een juweeltje uit te kiezen als welkomstgeschenk. I was in heaven! Wat me als eerste opviel was hoe groot de winkel wel niet is, wat ook wel nodig was voor 400 genodigden. Samen met mede bloggers wisten we niet waar eerst kijken, zoveel moois! De rij aan de paskamers werd dan ook met de minuut langer, dus om deftig te passen zal ik met plezier nog eens terug gaan. Met de 20% korting die we kregen kon ik natuurlijk niet met lege handen naar buiten gaan dus heb ik mij op de juwelen gefocust.  Na een tijdje werd het echter enorm druk in de winkel en besloot ik stilaan naar huis te gaan. Het was een zeer geslaagde avond met leuk gezelschap, lekkere drankjes en dat allemaal in mijn lievelingswinkel.
