Monthly Faves: February 2015

New month, new favourites! And this one went by so fast, that I haven’t really got much time to try new things. I basically tried using more of what I have (opened) first. Let’s get right to it.

With the risk of being repetitive, my first February favourite is Benefit Cheeky Sweet Spot Box O’ Blushes. The past month I’ve been hooked on the Sugarbomb blush (top right), one of Benefit’s star boxed blushes. Just like all of the others in the palette, you can get this one separately in a bigger boxed format. The powder comes with four triangles of color, which Benefit describes as “rose, shimmering pink, soft plum, and peach.” They’re meant to be used all together in one swipe, creating what Benefit would call a “sugar rush flush” for the face. The outcome is a beautiful peachy-pink shade with a very, very subtle golden sheen. I’d put this in the highlighter-blusher category, as it is not very pigmented, even on lighter skin tones such as mine. It gives off just the right amount of colour for a soft Spring glowy flush.

More sheen comes with the MakeUp Academy Undress Your Skin shimmer highlighter. A beautiful pink highlighter that makes the perfect budget alternative for my beloved The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer, of which I also now own the pink version. This one is not as pigmented or buttery, yet still gives off enough shimmer for that glowy sheen which changes the complexion in a subtle yet effective way. And I must admit, the shape of it was what drew me in too. Change the packaging and you’d think this was a MAC product. I’ll show this one in more detail soon so stay tuned!

I’ve been needing a whole lot of concealer lately. Long days, short nights is all it takes for those dark circles to pop up and these two have been saving me quite a bit. The Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in 01 Fair is quite thick, so this one I mostly use to cover blemishes or sometimes under my eyes when the circles are too dark for the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer to handle by itself. I always finish my routine with a little bit of this highlighting concealer under my eyes to brighten the area so I look more awake. I think mine is defective though, there’s product coming out of the upper part of the wheel. Not sure if I’ll be able to use that once I’ve worked my way down. Anyone else who’s had the same problem? More info on my favourite concealers here.

Maybelline Color Whisper lipstick in Lust for Blush is what I’ve been wearing on my lips for the past month. To me it’s the perfect Winter-Spring transition shade. The Color Whispers are quite subtle in colour, keep your lips moisturized and are easy to apply. Just what I need when my lips are having a hard time. I’m still hoping these ‘ll get a EU release soon so I can pick up some more colours. You can read my full review on them here.

Lastly, there’s the Victoria’s Secret Pink Sweet & Flirty body mist, a fruity scent with notes of sugar berry and grapefruit I’ve picked up at Victoria’s Secret in London 2 (?) years ago. I seriously have so many fragrances right now I don’t know what to use first. Body mists are my fave to wear during the day. They’re much lighter than your average eau de toilette so you can spray like there’s no tomorrow plus these won’t dry out your skin as they are enriched with aloe. The downside is that they don’t last that long, which isn’t a problem for me as I’d like to switch to perfume in the evening anyway.

So worth the money! I don’t understand why they didn’t release this everywhere.

Sugarbomb was my first Benefit blush and I still love it! What shade is your Maybelline concealer?

This was my first experience with Benefit powder blushes and I’m in love with them!
I’m very pale, so I always go for the lightest colour available when it comes to bases / face products. This one’s in ‘Fair’.
