If you like to wear matte lipstick, lip tints or any other long lasting lip products on a daily basis you might often find that regular lip balms just don’t cut it when it comes to keeping your lips in shape. Enter the lip sleeping mask! It is exactly what it looks like; a mask you put on your lips while you sleep, only to wake up with plump and moisturized lips. Sounds pretty good, no?
You may know Laneige from their popular Water Sleeping Mask/Pack, especially since the brand got international recognition ever since it has been sold at Target. The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask launched 2 years ago and has been making waves on its own. It’s sold out most of the time which made me wonder what exactly was so magical about this ‘glorified lip balm’. I’ve been surviving on regular lip balms ever since I ran out of my Nuxe Rêve De Miel lip balm and my lips haven’t exactly been looking that great either, so I didn’t need much to persuade me to cough up $20 for the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. It’s still cheaper than the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask ($ 26 for 15g), which is a popular alternative at Sephora.
I was so used to seeing Laneige products in blue packaging, it was actually quite the surprise when the product inside was pink. The Lip Sleeping Mask comes in a pink ombre plastic jar and comes with a silicone tip spatula, which is nicely wrapped in a plastic sachet. Extra points for the luxury feel and hygiene! When you open the jar a faint artificial smell of berries is noticeable. I personally don’t mind this, but some people probably will. The product itself looks quite waxy but immediately melts down to a soft gloss like texture once it gets in touch with body heat. Since this is a Sleeping Mask, you’re supposed to apply this before going to bed. I’m pretty generous with the application and gently wipe off the remains using a tissue the next morning.

The softening balm texture closely adheres to the lips and feels more comfortable than the gritty texture of the Nuxe Rêve de Miel. Enriched with vitamin C and antioxidants, its Berry Mix Complex™ offers a nutritiously sweet and fragrant blend of raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, and blueberry extracts to indulge the senses. In addition, the exclusive Moisture Wrap™ technology boasts hyaluronic acid and minerals to form a protective film over the lips to lock in moisture and active ingredients.
The result is smooth, soft and nourished lips in the morning. Moreover, the lines in my lips are less visible, making it the perfect canvas for a lipstick day. I use this once a week as a treatment, or whenever my lips are really flaky I will use it every day for as long as necessary. This is one of my favourite discoveries for the lips or in Kbeauty in general and I can’t wait to see other brands come up with their own versions because well.. it is rather expensive. Luckily, a little goes a long way. Definitely would recommend giving this a try!
