July 2015 Favourites

First of all, sorry for the lack of posts the past month. Despite the summer holidays having started I’ve actually been busier than ever with no time to spare to blog or to try a lot of new things. July’s favourites is a bit of a mish mash of new and old favourites. So it turns out shopping in your own beauty cabinet doesn’t have to be any less fun. Plus, I’m continuing my quest of using up my current stash before proceeding onto anything new. I’ve already spotted quite a few Fall releases that are looking pretty promising, so I better make good use out of this coming month and finish some more bottles before they drop in the stores. Curious about my findings? Let’s move on..

During Summer I mostly tend to keep my makeup routine on the down low and just stick to good basics. Apart from a pretty darn good SPF you’re going to need a moisturizer that can keep up with the heat and moisturize well. One I’ve been enjoying a lot lately is the Avène Cleanance Hydra Soothing Cream (via Farmaline)*. It’s aimed towards people who have acne and have undergone some kind of intense treatment (Roaccutane in my case). With the occasional breakouts / blemishes and drier areas it’s important to moisturize well and to be not too rich at the same time, which Avène seems to handle perfectly. With all the love for pharmacy brands happening lately I’m starting to think I don’t need to look further for affordable & effective skin care.

The Hema Illuminating Blush (LE Summer 2012) is an old favourite I dug up last month. I had totally forgotten about it, but as soon as I swatched it on my hand I remembered why I loved this so much when it came out. It has a lovely peachy pink colour that looks great on pale skin tones and the illuminating particles give the face a nice summer glow without having to add any highlighter. I remember being disappointed it was an overspray at first, but the colour turned out to be so beautiful and the pigmentation was just perfect. Right until this moment, it’s all I’ve been wearing.

Mascara makes you look so much more awake, so it’s something I’d rather not skip, even during summer (unless I’m having a makeup free day). My latest find is a darn good one; the Diorshow mascara is one I’d recommend to anyone who’s looking to try a new mascara and is willing to pay up.

I’m so into tightlining lately and L’Oréal SuperLiner Mat Matic black eyeliner is the perfect addition to my stash to help me with that. It’s a twistable matte eye pencil that glides onto the upper waterline really smoothly, creating a full lash effect. Together with the Diorshow mascara, this makes a big difference on how my eyes look. If you haven’t tried tightlining, I suggest you give it a go. The only downer here is that the Mat Matic doesn’t last throughout the day and I need to reapply because I tend to rub my eyes a lot (bear that in mind, fellow contact wearers).

Another favourite out of the old box is Dior Addict Lipstick in Lucky. When I first got this, I didn’t really think the colour matched me 100%. Now I just can’t stop wearing it (okay maybe not for work) though it’s so moisturizing you have to take the slippery part into account. Reapplying after drinking/eating is a must, but the vibrant pink red is simply too gorgeous to sit in a drawer during summer.

When it comes to fragrances, I usually keep it pretty light during summer, and that’s where the body mists come out to play. Victoria’s Secret PINK Wild At Heart Body Mist has been my fragrance of choice lately. The combination of conditioning aloe and a hint of fragrance (red passion fruit and sheer musk) is fun & fruity and never too much/ heavy.

Perhaps my biggest favourite of July is my attendance to Tomorrowland, the n°1 EDM festival in the world, hosted right here in Belgium. Amazing festival, the music, the people, the food,  decors, atmosphere… everything was top notch and absolutely worth it. So you have the chance to go, just do it. Thanks to everyone who was there with me. People of Tomorrow, you guys are truly EPIC!

What were your favourite things in July?
