As the temperatures rise with Summer coming up, so does the chance of humidity destroying your perfectly coiffed coupe as soon as you’re out the door. In case you’re headed somewhere hot and humid, SPF is not the only thing you’re going to need. Enter the Redken Frizz Dismiss range of anti-humidity, smoothing haircare products with FPF (Frizz Protection Factor). There’s 4 levels of FPF allowing you to choose protection from frizzy hair based on your hair type and humidity level. Using the Redken Frizz Dismiss shampoo and conditioner followed up by a product with FPF 30 is said to reduce frizziness up to 85%!
The range features both a regular and a sulfate-free shampoo, conditioner and mask, along with the FPF treatments; Fly-Away Fix (FPF 10), Smooth Force Lightweight Smoothing Lotion Spray (FPF 20), Instant Deflate Leave-In Smoothing Oil Serum (FPF 30) and Rebel Tame Leave-In Smoothing Control Cream (FPF 40). Wether you have fine hair, coarse hair or anything in between, there’s a Redken Frizz Dismiss in there for everyone.
You can easily figure out which product you need by using the Redken Frizz Protection Factor Scale which can be found on the back of each product. This Scale indicates which FPF you need according to your hair type and the humidity conditions. My hair is kind of in between and the humidity in Belgium is quite low at the moment, so I would have to use FPF 20. During Summer I might have to opt for FPF 30.
How it works? Each product is formulated with beneficial ingredients that are often found in skincare products, like Aquatoril to lock in moisture, and Brazilian Pracaxi Seed Oil to nourish and strengthen hair fibres.
I personally don’t think the cleansing line did any major things for me compared to other Redken products that I have tried (loved the Smooth Lock range to battle my frizz), but then again I haven’t been able to test it during extreme humid conditions. I will have to bring them with me when I go on vacation and report back. There’s definitely less frizz going on, especially when I take the time to use the rinse-out mask (5-15 minutes). But then again, using a mask is always better compared to just sticking to shampoo and conditioner. Unfortunately I haven’t tested any of the FPF-infused products that matched my needs other than this guy:
The Redken Frizz Dismiss Fly-Away Fix Finishing Sheets FPF 10 is the star of the FPF range and quite the clever concept if you ask me. It’s a box of 50 portable anti-frizz hair smoothing & finishing sheets infused with lavender oil for light frizz control and touchups. It won’t be strong enough for very humid areas, but they are ideal for getting those static baby hairs and fly-a-aways in check on a daily basis.
Because they don’t leave a greasy residue I even use them on the top of my head without worry. The only downside is that they are quite pricey (especially since it comes in a simple cardboard box) so I would love to see a drugstore version of this in the near future.
