The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil

When researching popular Korean cleansers, this one from roadshop brand The Face Shop came up a lot. The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil is fresh cleansing oil designed for oily skin to remove thick makeup and  cleanse impurities with light touch.

The product comes in a thin transparent plastic bottle with a pump and clip-on to prevent spilling. Unfortunately the bottle does leak a bit when held upside down, so I wouldn’t take the risk of taking it with me while travelling. I use this as the first step of my evening routine by warming 1-2 pumps in my hands before applying it to my dry face. Unlike my favourite, the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, this one is light and very drippy. After massaging gently for a minute, I add some lukewarm water to emulsify the product and massage for another minute. Finally, I rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Aside from some mascara, the oil dissolves makeup fast and gets rid of most effectively without leaving a greasy film behind.

Ingredients: Isopropyl Myristate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, Polyglyceryl-10, Diisostearate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Water/Eau, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Saponaria Officinalis Leaf Extract, Parfum/Fragrance, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Hydroxycitronellal, Limonene, Linalool.

Enriched with jojoba oil, The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Light Cleansing Oil dissolves impurities fast on the skin’s surface while hydrating the epidermis. The rice bran oil has antioxidants, Vitamin B and E that increases skin elasticity and makes it soft and hydrated.

A further glance at the ingredients list makes me a little worried for my acne-prone and sensitive skin. Although not fully conclusive, some studies have found that the main ingredient ‘Isopropyl Myristate‘ can cause clogged pores, which can in turn cause breakouts. My second worry is the amount of fragrance-related ingredients such as Limolene and Linalool, which can irritate sensitive skin.

This is an affordable and effective makeup remover and I can definitely see why so many love this, however I would not recommend this for sensitive and acne-prone skin as the ingredients list is kind of tricky. Because of this, I’m not likely to repurchase.
