If there’s one big thing in the beauty world right now, it’s probably brow products and Anastasia Beverly Hills & Cara Delevingne (or her legendary brows) are the ones responsible for the most part. The newly found focus on brows has unchained a massive reaction of brow product releases in both luxe and more budget friendly segments. I’ve been filling up my brows for 2 years now and I can’t imagine going back. In real life they look pretty okay, but in pictures they look naked if I don’t ‘touch’ em. Still, I’m quite hesitant to spend a lot on brow products since they mostly require some skill and time to perfect.
Recently Maybelline launched a pretty handy all-in-one solution called the Brow Satin Smoothing Gel Pen and Filling Powder Duo, a double-ended pencil with on one end a 2 mm gel pen and on the other a mousse applicator with a cream-to-powder formula. The fine pencil tip makes it easy define the brows by outlining them and filling in any bald spots by drawing little hairs in between. Afterwards I go over the entire brow with the powder to make it look more even. The texture is really soft, so don’t expect anything too pigmented. I’m not a fan of the visibly ‘drawn on’ brow -aka the cartoon brow- anyway, so for me it’s perfect.
Makeup artist and brow fanatic Maribeth Madron shows how to get a matte, soft brow. Watch it in action:
It’s incredibly easy to work with, even for those who are new to filling their brows. You get perfect filled in brows that still look soft & natural. The only thing I add afterwards is a clear brow gel from Hema to keep the hairs in check during the day. I only have one small complaint and it’s the colour range. There are 4 colours available, of which I own 2: medium brown and dark brown. The other 2 are for blondes. Dark brown is a perfect cool-toned dark brown, yet it’s a bit too dark for me. I went back to the store to pick up medium brown, which is a lot lighter, but it’s too warm to match my brows.
If you’re looking for a budget friendly, easy-to-use allround brow product to create a soft brow and you can find a good colour match, you might want to give this a go. I’ll just have to go back to using my Benefit Gimme Brow mascara & Catrice powder.

The darker one looks like it might be a good match for me!

Yeah, I think so too! I’m getting blonder as we’re approaching summer, so it’s a little too harsh for me unfortunately. Perhaps in winter I can pull it off. My mum is using it now 😀
