At last my favourite Japanese San-X (Sanrio) character Rilakkuma gets its very own makeup collaboration with A’Pieu! Of course there was not a chance in the world I wouldn’t pick up some stuff to try. A’pieu has been unknown territory for me, so what better time to try some of their products? These collaborations are for the most part repackaged existing products anyway. Let’s have a look!
For those who are unfamiliar with the brand; A’Pieu is the affordable little sister of Missha (by Able C&C) and is targeted towards the younger crowd. Like many Korean road shop brands, they launch a limited edition collection each year like last year’s Doraemon collection. This year, Rilakkuma x A’Pieu is ready to take over your beauty shelf. The collection carries 3 cleansers, a cushion foundation (2 colours), 4 eyeshadow quads, 5 cushion blushers and 6 tints.
A’Pieu x Rilakkuma Mud Fresh Cleansing Foam
I initially didn’t plan on picking up one of the skin care products, but in the end I succumbed to the cute packaging at the very end of my order. There were moisturizing and brightening options, but Korilakkuma’s cute face and fruits made me go for the mud cleanser. Unfortunately the ingredients list and product info on the back are all in Korean but a search online taught me its main ingredients include Sea Silt (Taean undersea natural mud), Chestnut Peel Extract and Lime Peel Extract. You use it by making it lather in your wet hands before applying to the face and rinse off with lukewarm water. The mud and bubbles are said to wash away excess sebum and impurities while the peel extracts leave the skin looking clearer. Sounds perfect for my combination skin.
The product comes in a decent sized squeeze tube of 130ml. Inside is a thick grey mud that transforms into a foam pretty easily. It has a faint smell, but I can’t exactly put my finger on it to tell you what it smells like. My skin has been feeling rather dehydrated lately, which makes this cleanser not the right option for daily use. I prefer to use it every 2-3 days in order for it to not strip my skin too much. If you have oily skin, this cleanser will probably feel just right.
A’Pieu x Rilakkuma Water Light Tints
I don’t need any more lip products really but since Koreans know their shit when it comes to lip tints, it was pretty much impossible to not get some. Just like the cleanser the A’Pieu Water Light Tints are permanent products that were given a yellow limited edition Rilakkuma design. They come in 6 varieties and brighten up any makeup purse with their cute packaging. I ended up choosing 3 colours: CR01 Unripe Grapefruit, PK01 Cherry Blossom & RD01 Rosy Love.
CR01 goes on quite orange, but quickly transforms into a more pinky tone on my lips. Not as pink as shown in the lip swatches below, but still pretty pink. PK01 is a bright pinky shade and RD01 is a standard bright cherry red. The formula is pigmented and is easy to apply thanks to the slim do-foot applicator, which helps to get in every corner of the lip. Although not fully opaque after the first swipe, they’re easy to build. The glossy finish remains for a few hours before needing to reapply.
What I first noticed is the terrible chemical scent which I sometimes even taste. With that, I’ve named pretty much my only con for this product. The colour of the tints really grabs onto the lips yet maintains feeling comfortable due to the glossy gel-like formula that remains on top of the lips. You can wear them all over or create a Korean gradient lip as shown below:
I love how these look and feel, however if scent is a big issue for you then I wouldn’t recommend these. Stay tuned for the review of the cushion foundation and blushes!
