Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation & Concealer

If there’s one thing I can’t try enough of, it’s a good base product. Because base products for pale skin types are hard to find, I don’t think twice if I get the chance to try something new. When I saw the big selection of Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation and Concealer shades in Ghent, it almost seemed like angels were chanting in my ear. Thank god, they had a shade that might match my skin! That, and the fact this duo is getting a lot of rave reviews on the interwebz, so there.. purchase justified.

The Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup foundation (what is up with these endless names lately) comes in gorgeous transparent packaging with a shiny cap. A lot of American brands use pouring bottles, but I’m thankful this one has a pump, and one that dispenses the perfect amount too. I simply pump some on the back of my hand and go in with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and then blend everything in using my Real Techniques Miracle Sponge or Garancia L’Eponge Magique.

I picked up 0.5, which is the lightest shade. Still not as light as my skin, but it’s something I can definitely work with. Despite the fact this foundation is very runny, it has quite good medium coverage. It won’t cover all of my blemishes, but it does a good job at evening out the skin tone. The finish is described as demi-matte, but I find it does look quite matte, especially in drier areas of the face. Although it applies quite nice, unfortunately this doesn’t last very long on me. By noon the foundation has moved around a bit around my nose and mouth area and by 5 PM the foundation has settled a bit in my fine lines. Normally this would be an easy fix with some powder, but in this case it ends up looking too caky in my opinion.

Aqua (Water/Eau), Cyclopentasiloxane, Butylene Glycol, Silica, Cyclohexasiloxane, Dimethicone, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Sodium Chloride, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Litchi Chinensis Pericarp Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Tribehenin, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin, Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/Polyglycerin-3 Crosspolymer, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Polysorbate 20, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Propylene Glycol, Carbomer, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Hexyl Laurate, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol. All shades may contain: CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491/77492/77499 (Iron Oxides).

The Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer is what triggered me to buy me some UD while at the launch event in the first place. It’s being named next to the NARS concealer as one of the top concealers to try. It has a sponge tip applicator that gives off enough to use on your entire face without turning things into a big mess. Again, this has great coverage, yet if you have very deep dark circles, you might want to use a corrector first.

I picked up the lightest shade, Fair Neutral, to use underneath my eyes. Because it’s lighter than my skin tone, it also brightens my undereye area at the same time. Unfortunately this means I can’t really use this on blemishes, unless I get it in another colour. The buildable formula stays put very well, just make sure not to use too much to prevent it from creasing. It also sets pretty fast, so it’s better to work in small areas instead of smothering the concealer all over your face before blending it in.

Despite all of the promising reviews, the Naked Skin foundation wasn’t able to capture my heart as much. I prefer my foundations a little more luminous, dewy and long-lasting, even if that means I have to finish off with some powder to make it last. The shade range is great and it’s an okay foundation, but just not the holy grail I’m looking for or willing to spend another € 35+ on.

As for the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer; I understand why so many people love it. The texture covers but it’s not too heavy, the colour selection is again great and it stays put all day. It has found a well deserved spot in my collection of favourite concealers.

Jammer van de foundation. Maar we kunnen niet allemaal ‘t zelfde goed vinden natuurlijk. De concealer klinkt goed.
