When Kenzo launches a perfume, they do so with a bang. Totem is a collection of 3 new eau de parfums: Totem Orange, Totem Yellow and Totem Blue, representing a new generation that breaks codes and conventions. A generation that doesn’t do clichés. A generation that is a mix of cultures and ideas. And this generation now has 3 unisex fragrances to choose from.
Totem Orange is the scent of vitality. It brings new energy thank to the woody floral notes. Bitter orange and lemon blossom is combined with sophisticated vetiver. It was created by Nathalie Gracia-Cetto & Olivier Pescheux.
Totem Blue is a fruity scent of sensuality, but one that is more fruity than sweet. It contains pineapple, cardamom and cedar. Antoine Lie and Jean Jacques are the masterminds behind this fragrance.
Last but not least is Totem Yellow, a scent providing a new, modern explosion of freshness thanks to the notes of pink grapefruit, sweet tea leaves and leathery woods. It was developed by perfumer Christophe Raynaud.
As tastes come in all different sizes and flavours, I can only imagine how hard it must be to create a fragrance that appeals to all – man or woman. Yet there is something undeniably attractive about unisex fragrances I can’t seem to shake. The Totem collection is something I’d like to smell on a man no doubt (especially Totem Orange), although I’ve been wearing Totem Yellow for a while now and I must say I quite like it for myself as well. I wouldn’t wear it everyday as it’s quite heavy and long-lasting, but it gives my skin the necessary break from my usual girly floral scents.
The packaging is top notch, from the design of the box it came in to the totem shaped glass which looks like a modern glass sculpture you could easily use to dress up your furniture.
My favourite Kenzo fragrance will probably forever be Eau Sensuelle, yet if you’re looking for a scent to share with your boo, I’d totally have a go at Totem.
