After my ‘pink product spotlight’ post, I thought it was about time I went into more detail about some of the products. This one in particular has caught the attention of many every time I posted a picture of it on Instagram. No doubt the TonyMoly Cats Wink Clear Pact is adorable, but one question remained: is it any good?

First, let’s rewind to two years ago. I’m in Barcelona with my friend Kelly and we’re doing what you can expect from beauty bloggers who go on a trip together. We’re browsing the shelves of Primor, my favourite perfumery/drugstore chain in Spain, in Maremagnum shopping centre when suddenly Kelly points out the shelf of Skin79 products in some corner. K-beauty in Europe, is this really happening? Europe is always a bit falling behind when it comes to new beauty trends, so I didn’t expect it to come so soon. After I decide on the Skin 79 Hot Pink Beblesh Balm and the Skin 79 Snail Nutrition BB and make my way to the makeup section of the store, my eye catches another shelf of cuteness from the land of kimchi. Holika Holika, Etude House, Skinfood and Lioele are a couple of brands lying there waiting for me and I felt like I just had found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Knowing the products would be totally overpriced and I had a trip to Japan coming up, I decided to limit my purchases to the absolute minimum. One of them was the Tonymoly Cats Wink Clear Pact because well.. the reason is pretty clear no? I haven’t read much about this particular product so this was basically just an impulse buy. Tonymoly is a budget brand, but the pact is actually very well made. It’s light, yet very sturdy and comes with a mirror on the inside. At first I was a little disappointed the paws and stripes disappeared when you take the plastic off, but the pact is still cute.

The choice is rather limited. There are 2 colours in total, 01 Clear Skin and 02 Clear Beige, and they look very similar. Since they’re meant to be translucent I’m not sure why there are 2 colours in the first place. I picked 02 Clear Beige and it doesn’t have any effect on the colour of my base. I think it’s very suitable for fair skin tones and might even be lightening for those who are a bit darker. The pact comes with a very soft sponge applicator, which helps to spread the product more evenly. You can use a powder brush, but it will pick up a lot of product from even the lightest swirl.

I love this powder because it’s lightweight and it can matify without sucking all of the life out of your skin by removing every bit of natural glow from your skin of your base (foundation or bb cream). I’ve been saying this a lot lately but I’ve been seeing youtubers pack on matte powder like there’s no tomorrow, only to follow up with a truckload of highlighter to get some glow. What’s the use?

It’s incredibly soft and will help smooth your skin, making pores and fine lines less visible. The only remark I would have is that it doesn’t keep your face oil-free throughout the day if you have combo skin, which means touch-ups every couple of hours will be necessary. You won’t hear me complaining though, any reason to pull this cutie out of my bag is a good one! For the ‘normal’ price this is a product I’ll love using till the very end. I wouldn’t recommend paying € 15 for it like I did though. I had a weak moment there.

Tonymoly Cat’s Wink Clear Pact (11 g) – € 15
Available at Primor (ES), Ulta (US), YesStyle and various Korean webshops.
Prices can vary a lot depending on where you buy. Beware of fakes on market places like eBay though!
