Have you ever gone through a lot of trouble finding the perfect dress to go to a party and then find out someone else is wearing exact the same one? Oh, the horror! That’s exactly what happened with a Miu Miu dress from the fall ’10 collection. It happens to be on the August covers of not two, but three (!) major glossy magazines at the same time!

Model Freja Beha Erichsen is wearing the brighter version on the cover of British Vogue, actrice Eva Mendes for the American W-magazine and singer Lily Allen is wearing a slightly different lila version with embroidered lace for the British Elle. Miu Miu must be thrilled with this, the magazine editors probably not so much..

Heb je ooit al eens ontzettend je best gedaan om die ene perfecte jurk te vinden om aan te doen voor een feestje en dan te weten komen dat iemand anders net hetzelfde aanheeft? Oh, the horror!

Dat is precies wat er gebeurde met een Miu Miu jurkje uit de herfst ’10 collectie. Het staat namelijk op de de covers van de augustusnummers van niet twee, maar 3 grote glossy magazines tegelijkertijd! Model Freja Beha Erichsen draagt de lichtere versie op de cover van de Britse Vogue, actrice Eva Mendes voor de Amerikaanse W en zangeres Lily Allen draagt een lichtjes andere met kant versierde lila jurk voor de Britse Elle. Miu Miu moet wel heel blij zijn met deze ‘toevallige’ pr-stunt, de redacteuren van de magazines waarschijnlijk niet..

On Thursday, newly graduate Oda Pausma presented her ‘Hobohemian Heaven’ collection. It was based on the fusion of two worlds: poetical and rebellion. Where the poet cared for constructed folds, the rebel added a twist like pants and skirts where the hip has been pushed forward. The clothing was inspired on the ‘Chelsea Hotel’ in New York in the seventies. The only colors that were used are white, black and some yellow accents.

Franciscus van der Meer got so fascinated by the holocaust when he read ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’, that he decided to create a collection around it. He used the concept of oppression vs freedom: a lot of black, coats cut in half, held together by suede belts and a stripe that fades away, reminiscent of that camp-uniform…

“I tried to put a new, or different, light on a terrible part of our history. This medium has the power to communicate within a human scale, in an individual way, in a way that hopefully creates more understanding between people and their communities,” explained van der Meer.

Designers Marie Burlot and Jimmy Paul seemed to have a lot of fun making this collection and it looks like they didn’t take themselves too seriously if you listen at the false version of Britneys ‘Gimme more’ soundtrack that was playing. 

The collection was inspired by JonBenet Ramsay and told the story about going to school for the first time. It felt more like a trip to Barbieland to me though. They used a lot of pink, glitters, fake fur, feathers and crowns. Not very wearable if you ask me, but definitely fun to look at.

Designer Indra Welman wanted to honor the little black dress (LBD) and decided to create an whole collection around the iconic piece, called ‘Une petite robe NOIRE’. Yet not all the models were black from head to toe. A green top and two beige dresses with black accents came by too. Welman used embellishments like paillettes, fringes and ruches to create different versions of the LBD.

I can relate to Indra’s love for little black dresses. You can never have enough of them since you can wear them on every occasion and they’re available in countless varieties so that it looks good on anyone. Every woman should at least have 1 LBD in their closet!

Ontwerpster Indra Welman wou een ode brengen aan het zwarte jurkje (LBD) en besloot om er een volledige collectie rond te creëren, genaamd Une petite robe NOIRE. Toch waren niet alle modellen van kop tot teen in the zwart gekleed. Een groene top en twee beige jurkjes met zwarte accenten kwamen ook voorbij. Welman gebruikte versieringen als pailletten, franjes en ruches om voldoende diversiteit in de zwarte jurkjes te brengen.

Ik kan me wel vinden in Indra’s liefde voor zwarte jurkjes. Je kunt er werkelijk niet genoeg in je kast hebben hangen. Je kunt ze op elke gelegenheid dragen en er zijn zoveel varianten dat er voor iedereen wel een jurk te vinden is die je figuur flatteert. Elke vrouw zou op z’n minst 1 LBD in haar kast moeten hebben!

Project Catwalk participant Nicolaas had his first own fashion show at AIFW on Thursday. There, he presented his ‘Edge‘ collection, which he designed for the edgy woman whom he calls ‘a hot mess’.

Nicolaas designed 9 different outfits and used red, black and white as his main colors. The rose dress and skirt maybe to sweet (love them though!) for an ‘edgy‘ collection, but the other looks make up for it by adding all the edge with their leather garments.

Another thing that I love, are the statement bracelets from Mammoet Gerritsen that the models wore. Probably not very practical, but definitely an eyecatcher! The futuristic sunglasses are made by designer Aart van Asseldonk.

Donderdag presenteerde ex-deelnemer Nicolaas van Project Catwalk zijn eerste eigen modeshow op AIFW. Hij toonde er zijn ‘Edge’ collectie, die hij ontwierp voor de ‘edgy’ vrouw, wie hij zelf een ‘hot mess’ noemt.

Nicolaas ontwierp 9 verschillende outfits waarbij hij de kleuren rood, zwart en wit als hoofdkleuren gebruikte. De rozenjurk en -rok zijn misschien iets wat te zoet voor een ‘edgy‘ collectie (vind ze wel super!), maar de andere looks zorgen dan weer voor genoeg ‘edge‘ met de lederen stukken.

Nog iets wat ik heel leuk vind, zijn de statement armbanden van Mammoet Gerritsen die de modellen aanhadden. Waarschijnlijk niet echt praktisch om te dragen, maar zeker wel een leuke eyecatcher! De futuristische zonnebrillen zijn van de hand van designer Aart van Asseldonk.
