Excitement overload when these Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid lipsticks dropped on my doorstep. Liquid lipsticks are being dropped all over the place, but the comfy aspect of these was what got me intrigued. I do love me a bright matte lip, but the drying feeling puts me off so much! Let’s see if these live up to their promise..
The Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquids have a unique texture that feels like a mousse. They don’t dry down completely matte, which is what makes them feel comfortable. On the flip side, this also makes they’re not as long-lasting as I would like them to be. After a couple of hours they will start to fade. Especially having drinks or a meal can be tricky so make sure to check if you need any touchups afterwards.
They do fade quite evenly without leaving any flakes or dry patches, which will make reapplication a lot more smoother compared to other liquid lipsticks. The long and thin applicator makes it really easy to apply, it gives you the precision you need for intense colours like these.
I was offered the colours Nude Flash, Rebel Red and Possessed Plum, which happen to be my 3 favourites from the range. Possessed Plum is the darkest colour in the collection and also the one that needs the most work to apply evenly. Still, you need to get up really close to see the difference, so it doesn’t bother me at all. It’s more of a shade I would wear during Fall and Winter though. Rebel Red is just a beautiful bright red. Very pigmented and very in-your-face. I don’t wear enough reds to be honest, but this one is going in my weekend stash for sure. Lastly there’s Nude Flash, which I think is a little more pink than an actual nude, but still I’ve been wearing this pretty much non-stop since I got it. A perfect shade for everyday.
In the swatches I wanted to show you how wet and glossy it looks right after application (Possessed Plum), down to when it’s dried matte (Nude Flash), so you get a better idea of the formulation and finish. I personally love how it looks; matte but not dried out, very opaque and bright, just in time for summer. I like to wear these whenever I’m looking for a bright lipstick with the comfort of a lip gloss. If you’re looking for something that will last you all day, this isn’t for you. I on the other hand will be putting ‘Pink Charge’ on my wish list (not available in Belgium).
