To kickstart this new week, I’d like to present you with a wonderful drugstore find: the Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils. These jumbo lip pencils come in 9 different colours and you should own at least one of them. Let me explain why..

The pencils come in the typical black Color Drama style. They’re chunky, but quite small, so they’ll easily fit in your makeup bag for applications on-the-go. I ended up picking 5 out of 9 shades and I’m hoping these will stay permanent (as in please release more shades). They’re also regular wooden pencils, which means you’ll have to sharpen them to keep them ready for use. Make sure you close the lid properly, as it may tend to fall off while in your bag. Plus, be cautious when putting it back on because the texture of the lip pencils is actually really creamy and therefore delicate like a lipstick.

I ended up picking 5 out of 9 colours, including a couple of shades I normally wouldn’t wear because they’re so bold, but they looked incredible when I swatched them on my hand. Minimalist is a pink nude with some shimmer. It’s the one pencil that stands out because it’s not as creamy as all the rest. It gets stuck in the fine lines quite easily and feels kind of dry. In fact, if I had purchased this one alone, I wouldn’t have felt happy about this product at all. All of the others were really creamy and pigmented.

In With Coral is actually more of a bright pink and a great shade for summer. The first new type of shade for me is Light It Up, a beautiful bright red with some orange undertones. This really brightens up the complexion and looks great on fair skin too. Red Essential is a bit darker and more cool toned. This is a great classic fall-winter type of red. Then there’s the out-of-my-comfort-zone Berry Much, a pretty dark berry colour which turned out to look more purple than anticipated, but I ended up loving it.

The Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils are very pigmented, feel comfortable on the lips because they’re so smooth and creamy and last a couple of hours without having to reapply. When having drinks or meals, it’s advised to check if you need to reapply, but it really all depends on the type of food. I usually apply a bit of lip balm and remove the excess with some tissue before applying these. It helps my lips stay moisturized so the colour doesn’t dry out too much with the changing weather conditions. They’re very similar to the lip pencils from NARS, but only for a fraction of the price. Apart from Minimalist, I love all of the colours that I’ve tried and I would recommend to give them a try next time you’re at the drugstore. You won’t be disappointed!
