Going to the UK anytime soon? Then you might want to pick up one of these..
I picked up the Gorgeous Skin Gift set from Liz Earle during my trip to London in November last year after hearing a lot of people rave about the Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. I’m always looking for the next big thing when it comes to cleansing my face and since this one had won countless beauty awards I was intrigued enough to ignore the price tag and take the plunge. The fact that I was abroad and in complete holiday spirit made me feel extra spendy and I bought 2 sets of this famous cleanser. The first one you’re seeing right now I picked up at Boots, one of UK’s best drugstores (who now also ship to Belgium).
The Liz Earle Gorgeous Skin Gift Set contains 1 Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser (100 ml), 2 pure Muslin Cloths and the Instant Boost Skin Tonic mini spritzer (30 ml). Gift sets like these always offer a nice opportunity to try new things from a brand at a cheaper price. Since I wanted to buy the cleanser and muslin cloths anyway, the spritzer was a nice little extra. I believe I paid a little under £20 in total (don’t quote me on this, it’s been a while).
First things first, let’s discuss Liz Earle’s star product, the Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. It’s basically a cream that helps you remove your makeup quickly and leave your skin clean, smooth and radiant. The plant-based cleanser has a two-phase action. Phase one is the cleansing itself. With one push of the pump you get the right amount of product for your entire face. It looks like a thick cream at first, but quickly grows thinner as soon as you rub it in. You can immediately notice the makeup being separated from the skin, even though it feels super gentle, almost like you were to put on moisturizer. This is why I think it’s a great product for sensitive skin types. For example if you thought the Philosophy cleanser is too harsh for you. Ingredients include: beeswax, eucalyptus essential oil, glycerin, hops extract, d-panthenol, rosemary, chamomile and cocoa butter.
Phase two is the polishing, which basically comes down to taking the cream + makeup off with the muslin cloth. Put the cloth in hot water first, wring it out and then gently wipe the product off of your face. This process will gently dislodge dead skin cells and help reveal clean, soft and radiant skin. Rinse and repeat as long as necessary. You can use any muslin cloth you like, only I find the one’s from Liz Earle a real treat because they’re so soft. I’d prefer these over the one I bought at The Body Shop anytime. I’m so sad I lost one in New York. I change cloth every 3 days. Taking care of them doesn’t require a whole lot of effort. Just make sure you rinse them properly after each use and after a spin in the washing machine they’re as good as new. After cleansing, my skin feels clean and soft. It doesn’t feel dry, like some other cleansers can make the skin feel if they strip the skin too much. It’s just perfect, even for combination skin.
After cleansing I go over my face with a cotton pad soaked in micellar water, to get the last bits off that I might’ve missed (especially around the hair line and eye area, since I’m not too keen on rubbing cream there). Then it’s time for the Instant Boost Tonic Spritzer to work its magic. I was pleasantly surprised about this product. First of all, it smells incredible. The spritzer itself could be better (if you don’t push hard enough, you might get a wet squirt instead of a moisturizing mist), but the product itself is lovely. It contains cucumber extract, geranium essential oil, aloe vera, glycerin, hops extract, d-panthenol, vitamin E, calendula extract and camomile extract for a total moisture boost. You can get this tonic in a big size, although I find this mini spritzer ideal to take with me in my bag and give my face a refreshing touch throughout the day. This one won’t be left out of my essential summer kit, I tell ya!
For me this gift set was a true winner (even though I bought it for myself) and I’d definitely buy it again (for myself or for others). If you have sensitive skin and you’re looking for a good cleanser, you might want to give this one a go.
