Givenchy Holiday 2015 – Les Nuances Glacées Look

Some people dislike it, but I personally love snow and the magical landscapes that come with it. Nicholas must feel the same way, since the Givenchy Holiday 2015 collection was inspired by this frosty white powder. The result is an eye-catching collection that looks great on the vanity as well as on your face.

La Palette Glacée eyeshadow palette is a true stunner. Nicholas kept the shape of last years design intact, including the signature Givenchy stud you need to press to open it up. This year, the case is a stark white material with tiny shimmer on top, making it seem like fresh snow. The shimmer stays put really well, even when rubbed hard, so you don’t have to worry about your makeup bag becoming glitterville. But the top does feel like sandpaper, so to protect it as well as the other items in your bag, I’d recommend to keep it separately.

Inside you’ll find 2 sponge applicators (who uses those?) and 6 gorgeous colours. It immediately becomes clear this palette can be used for both festive and everyday makeup. The three iridescent shades – Marron Glacé, Bronze Caramélisé Précieux, Délectation de Blanc Irisé (to be used as a top coat) – blend perfectly with the three matte shades – Beige Rosé (to be used as a unifier), Essence de Marron, Marron Praliné Onctueux. Doesn’t it look like a delicious box of chocolates?

The new formula with multi-reflective particles of different sizes can be used wet or dry, giving both beginners and experts the opportunity to experiment and use the palette for various looks, from a sheer wash of colour to a hefty party glam look.

Le Rouge Givenchy N°320 Rouge Glacé is one for the Le Rouge collectors like me. Great formulation in great packaging and above all, a lovely bright coral pink that compliments the chocolate brown colours of the palette well. It’s an unusual shade for a Holiday collection, which tends to be more aimed at the classic or burgundy reds, but I like it a lot!

The formulation gives a satin finish and is really creamy, which gives a comfortable feel to the lip. However, I wish there was a matching lip liner available, so you could create a crisp line along the cupids bow. For nudes, this works perfectly fine, but for a bright & bold lip colour and especially for a party glam look, I prefer a perfectly outlined lip. Of course, you can always use a lip brush to make a more defined look. (Why didn’t I think about that earlier? Le sigh.)

Givenchy La Palette Glacée & Le Rouge Givenchy Rouge Glacé swatches (dry): swatched in order of the palette (f.l.t.r.) The colours swatch good, all but the Beige Rosé, who almost isn’t noticeable at all on my fair skin, but works as a base colour to even out my eyelid, and the Délectation de Blanc Irisée (sparkly white) that almost came up as translucent (since it was designed to be a top coat, but I used this to highlight the inner corners of my eyes).

The colours are buildable, yet I have experienced some fallout with the glittery ones, but nothing too dramatic. I’d advise to use a good eyeshadow primer for this palette.

This look is so me, wearable nudes & browns, Japanese gyaru/Korean aegyosal inspired frosty inner corners and a bold lip just to make a statement. I absolutely love this and can see myself getting good use out of these products. This proves a collection doesn’t have to have a gazillion products, just 2 winners will do. Love!
