There are many ways to apply your makeup base, but one of the most revolutionary ways in recent years has to be the use of a beauty sponge. Makeup artists have been using them for years, but now you can easily achieve that flawless skin at home. It all started with the Beauty Blender, a fuchsia pink egg-shaped sponge that changed the way we applied our makeup. This revolutionary sponge paved the way for the mass of beauty sponges on the market today, which look nothing like the once poor-quality square or rectangular use ‘n toss sponges they were before.
Today I’ll be introducing you to the Garancia L’éponge Magique, a drugstore-priced beauty sponge you can find at the pharmacy. Rather than copy the shape of its famous predecessor, this one comes in a rather remarkable shape that is said to adapt to all zones of the face to get a more uniform, cleaner and smoother finish. It comes in Garancia’s brand colours (white, green and black).
You use the sponge by soaking it under the running tab and wringing it out. Then place some foundation on the back of your hand and go in with the damp sponge to pick up some product. Gently pat the product all over the face using the sponge. The unique shape allows you to easily cover big areas, using the rounded surface, as well as go in small corners like the sides of your nose, using the pointy tips. The application goes seamlessly and the end result is a natural and even looking skin tone (see result here). Don’t forget to rinse your sponge after use and giving it a good clean with soap every once and awhile. I tend to do this every week to keep it in tip-top shape.
Overall this sponge does what it promises: great application with minimum effort. Once you try one of these sponges, it’s hard to go back. Just keep in mind you will use more product when you use a sponge instead of a makeup brush, as the sponge will absorb some of the product. You might want to be careful with your expensive foundations, especially those that have a runny texture as they might run out before you know it. I feel like I can use my foundation more sparingly with my current drugstore favourite, the Real Techniques Miracle Sponge. In application however, these 2 are worthy opponents.

I know, what is about sponges that just gets you hooked on them immediately??
