Essence Hello Autumn Collection

Autumn’s just around the corner which means tons of new make-up collections! I got a bunch lined up for you guys (Dior, Givenchy, Chanel, ..) but today I’m starting off with a collection that matches every budget. Essence has recently released a new limited edition collection called ‘Hello Autumn‘ featuring some Fall appropriate products. I picked up some items from the collection to review.

The first item I got (and I went to 3 stores to find it, talk about dedication) is one of the 2 eye shadow palettes in 01 Walk in the Park. It’s a beautiful pa:ette with 6 shimmery eye shadow colours and a double-edged sponge applicator. I’m not a fan of sponge applicators. It’s so difficult to get the product onto the lids evenly and they’re also hard to clean afterwards. I’m using my RealTechniques eye shadow brushes to apply the colours instead. The colours are all warm toned, except the first one on the left, a cool white-silvery shade, which serves as a highlighter. I found it a bit strange at first. Why not add a warm toned highlighter to make the palette complete? The other colours are neutrals that go from gold to bronze and taupe. They have a rather reddish undertone, which makes them perfect for Fall, but also a bit risky as you don’t want to look sick or tired.

The shades don’t have the best pigmentation I’ve seen, I definitely expected more from the darkest shade, but it’s perfectly doable if you build it up. I used all of the colours in the look below to give you some idea of how they look like when worn. I found that these shades compliment blue eyes really well as it makes them stand out more. On the other hand I do think this would look better on more tanned skin or warmer skin types (just darker than me, which is basically everybody). But overall, I’m pretty happy with this. They’re still neutrals, but the undertones make it a bit more challenging to wear. For it’s price I think this is a pretty decent palette to have this season.

Now onto my favourite product out of the 3; the Hello Autumn Lip Cream in 02 Keep Calm & Go for a Walk (not really digging the names of this collection really). This is a pretty pink nude lip cream that dries up to a matte finish. I’m always a bit hesitant when it comes to matte lip products as my lips are pretty susceptible to dehydration. With this lip cream, I don’t have to worry about that at all! My lips already had a rough patch when I applied this for the photo and I think it still turned out okay. The Lip Cream has the perfect your-lips-but-better nude shade I love to wear every day at the office. And I don’t even have to reapply all that much. It lasts several hours on me, even when I’m drinking or eating. The coverage is pretty good, but I like to add some layers on there anyway. Maybe that’s also why it lasts so long and doesn’t dehydrate my lips?

Then there’s the Eye Pencil in 01 Leaves are the new Beef and what I would call, an impulse buy. I didn’t plan on picking this up, but the metallic brown looked so tempting and I was looking to get a brown eye liner anyway, so I caved. The colour is really pretty (dark brown with a brown metallic shimmer) and pigmented on my hand, but I find it much more difficult to apply on the lids. I wanted a clean line for my look, so I applied it after doing the eye shadows. Normally, you can also apply the eyeliner first and then smudge the edges with the other end to create a smokey eye. The pencil lacks a bit of creaminess to make it work smoothly. I had to go over the lash line a couple of times to make it show up the way it did. I’m a contact lens wearer and at a certain point, my eye just gets irritated from all of the tugging. I wouldn’t say it sucks, but for me I prefer some liners that are a bit creamier, so they glide on more easily. Then again, I can’t complain about the lasting power, which was ok.

Overall, I think the collection was one of the best I’ve seen this year. It has some pretty interesting stuff like the blushes and nail polishes that change colour, pretty brow kits and a good looking bronzer. I’m pretty happy with the stuff I picked up, although I’ll probably get the most use out of the lip cream. Now all I need to do is get my lips back in moist mode to make them look absolutely perfect!

// Het is bijna herfst en dat betekent dat er weer een hoop nieuwe collecties in de winkels liggen! Ik ging even langs bij Kruidvat om de nieuwe limited edition collectie van Essence te bekijken – Hello Autumn – en ik nam enkele producten mee om te reviewen. Als eerste nam ik het oogschaduwpalet in 01 Walk in the Park mee (ik ben wel bij 3 winkels langgewenst voor ik het te pakken kon krijgen), een mooi warm neutraal oogschaduwpalet met 6 shimmery kleurtjes. Op één na – de witte/zilveren highlighter- zijn het allemaal warme kleurtjes met een brons tot rode ondertoon, wat het wel wat spannender maakt. Ik vind het palet heel leuk staan bij blauwe ogen al ben ik ietsje te bleek om er volledig mee weg te komen. De pigmentatie is niet de beste die ik ooit gezien heb, vooral de donkerste kleur brachten niet zo gemakkelijk aan), maar ik vind het eindresultaat best wel nog ok.

Mijn favoriet uit de spulletjes die ik heb opgepikt is echter de roze nude lip cream in 02 Keep Calm & Go for a Walk. Deze heeft de perfecte jouw-lippen-maar-dan-beter kleur voor elke dag en is gemakkelijk aan te brengen met de spons applicator. De cream is goed gepigmenteerd, al breng ik steeds enkele laagjes aan waardoor hij lang blijft zitten, zelfs na eten of drinken. Hij droogt mat op en droogt mijn lippen helemaal niet uit. Deze gaat vanaf nu overal met mij mee in de handtas.

Als laatste kocht ik ook nog de Eye Pencil in 01 Leaves are the new Beef. Stond niet echt op de planning, maar ik liet me verleiden door de mooie donkerbruine kleur met bruine metallic shimmer. Op mijn hand ziet hij er heel gepigmenteerd uit, maar om hem aan te brengen op de oogleden was precies nog iets anders. Ik draag lenzen en op een bepaald moment kun je gewoon niet verder over hetzelfde plekje beginnen tekenen omdat je oog(lid) geïrriteerd raakt of je schrik hebt om je lenzen te verliezen. De eye pencil had dus van mij iets smeuïger gemogen zodanig dat hij wat gemakkelijker zou aanbrengen. Van de houdbaarheid is dan wel niet veel op aan te merken want hij bleef redelijk goed zitten. 

Ik ben tevreden over mijn aankopen, al denk ik dat ik vooral aan de lip cream het meeste plezier zal hebben. Nu alleen nog mijn lippen back in shape krijgen zodat de lip cream er helemaal perfect uit kan zien.
