Closet: the new hotspot in A-town

There’s a new shop on the block you cannot miss when you’re paying a visit to fashionable A-town. Closet is a new conceptstore by the 2 lovely sisters Katrien & Mieke Fonck, whose concept is to serve as a “shuttle” for new designers. The brands you’ll find in the store are nothing but a carefully selected range of qualitative and unique brands you hardly will find anywhere else, instead of a selection based on trends or price tags. They try to attract a broad audience and therefore the price range is also limited from € 40 – € 350.

The brands are divided into 2 categories: the permanent brands or those who are personally chosen by the Fonck sisters and are mostly only available at Closet for the Belgian market like Ready To Fish, Wackerhaus, Chromat, Custommade, Them Atelier, Forrest & Bob and Vibe Johansson; and the temporary brands or the designers who rent space in the store for a cheap price to get their brand out there. For April, these brands are: Lisa Colpaert, Heidewinne, My Daily Wood and Titi + The German Kid.

Why they chose the name ‘Closet’ is pretty obvious. In-store they’ve built a huge closet with racks which create the letters ‘closet’ as you can see on the image above. This is the ‘closet space’ that is used to put upcoming talent in the spotlight. For this month, the honor goes to Lisa Colpaert.

One of my favorite Dutch brands, Ready To Fish, is now finally available in Belgium! Ilja Visser’s (the designer) use of textures, colors and details blows my mind everytime!

I fell for this villain-looking jacket from Wackerhaus instantly. The fabric and cut are great, but the eyes on the back make this jacket an absolute must-have!

And last but not least, a picture of my outfit I was wearing that night with my smokey cat eyes I created in the afternoon during the MAC Technique lessons. I love this new navy-blue dress I recently bought at Zara. The front is all covered up, but the back reveals everything, making it a perfect evening dress. I hope you don’t mind me taking the shots (I’m really not that kind of narcissistic person who constantly takes pics of herself in the mirror), Kim took a few but they turned out to be blurry when I got home and my roomie in Ghent just happened to be laying on some beach in the Caribbean somewhere. Figures..

And then there was also the story that I forgot to ask Kim to unbutton me when I drove her home. There’s this teeny-tiny button in the back of my neck which is just impossible to close by myself. Or open. So for a moment I thought I had to use the dress as a sleeping garment and that I would be caught in this straightjacket until someone ‘found’ me. Eventually after probably half an hour I had freed myself from my dress. Since then, I have a love-hate relationship with it. But we still lived happily ever after..

Anyway, Closet is one of my new must-see shops when I’m visiting Antwerp. There will be various new collections to discover throughout each season, so it’s definitely worth it to drop by on a regular note and re-discover what the closet holds.
