Beauty |How to Organize Your MakeUp Stash

“A new year calls for a fresh start”, I always say. While I’m still debating wether or not I should cut & dye my hair, I thought it would probably be best if I started small and cleaned up my beauty stash at least a bit. Last year’s new years resolution of buying less makeup turned out to be a huge fail due to amount of exciting new launches and my desperate need of always looking to try more and finding new treasures. Ever since I started this blog my stash has quintupled, to a point where my Ikea Malm beauty cabinet is no longer sufficient to keep everything nice and organized. It was too much of a hassle to go dig in one of the big boxes every morning, so I mostly ended up wearing the same products every day and I forgot about everything else, which ended up taking too much space and a waste of money.

About a year ago I discovered Muji, a Japanese home decoration store, which I like to compare to the Dutch Hema. Their acrylic drawers were – and still are- a huge hit amongst beauty bloggers, and after getting ahold of one myself (I thank you for that, Hanne!) I finally understood all the hype. Now, I pick one up whenever I can when I’m abroad since they’re quite heavy and shipping was crazy expensive.

My favourite box up until now was this 2-drawer box with liftable top (€ 17,25) of which I own 2. Then I also have another 2-drawer but with closed top (€ 16).  I use one for my everyday makeup that I keep in the bathroom. It contains an entire routine and I switch the content up from time to time. The other one (shown above) I use to put away my most recent purchases, so it’s easier to try them and mix them into my everyday routine during testing period. They have the perfect size to hold different routines and they fit into my bathroom just right (in between the sink and table top where the lavatory is). You should’ve seen my bathroom before I had these.. it was a mess! Now I get to tuck away everything nicely and I still get a decent overview of where each product is.

Recently my lipstick addiction seemed to get a bit out of control, resulting in this lipstick madness (and this is only part of it). I desperately needed to find some kind of system that would give me a quick overview of all of the colours I had. Of course I turned to Muji for the solution, which I found in their 12 compartment box (€ 15). Each compartment can fit 4 to 8 lipsticks which you can either sort by colour, brand, whatever you like! I can’t express enough how happy I am with my latest purchase. Now all I have left to do is to take out the lipsticks I hardly use anyway to make space for 2014 novelties!

You can buy the acrylic drawers from Muji at their retail locations or online here. The German site has much cheaper shipping than the UK one (only 7 €). Have you got any Muji acrylic drawers? Or other methods to organize your make-up?

Please note that some of the lipsticks above are PR samples.

Superhandig zo’n organizer! Dat moet ik me ook dringend aanschaffen. Jammer van de verzendkosten, maar ik onthou het zeker als ik naar het buitenland ga

Muji is awesome for storing make up! Unfortunately I try to limit my collection to a size where I don’t actually need their stuff
