StyleLab loves… &OtherStories Body Mists

There are times I wish I could make you all smell the fragrances I’m talking about on this blog because sometimes even the dictionary doesn’t have the right words to describe what they smell like. That, and I do a terrible job at describing scents anyway. In this very moment, my room and myself included (omg this feels like I’m bragging) smell like pure bliss. Sometimes a brand creates fragrances so divine, that they seem to be sent straight from the heavens. Today, I introduce you to… the body mists from & Other Stories.

As you might’ve heard, the Swedish retailer is planning on opening 2 stores in Belgium this year. I’m crying myself to sleep every night because I’ll probably be on a plane over to New York when the first store opens its doors in Antwerp next month. Ok not really, I’m not complaining but I’m kind of bummed. Luckily, the second opening in Brussels is only 2 months away. Read more about the & Other Stories concept here.

Er zijn momenten waarbij ik wens dat ik jullie de geweldige geuren kon laten ruiken waarover ik het heb, want soms bevat het woordenboek niet genoeg stof om te kunnen beschrijven waar ze nu precies naar ruiken. O ja, en dat het beschrijven van geuren niet bepaald mijn sterkste punt is, dat ook. Op dit eigenste moment zijn zowel mijn kamer -mezelf incluis- gehuld in een deken van pure goddelijkheid. Soms creëert een merk een geur die zodanig goed is, dat ze regelrecht uit de hemel lijken te komen. Mag ik jullie voorstellen aan.. de body mists van & Other Stories.

Je zult het vast wel al gehoord hebben; de Zweedse retailer plant dit jaar nog 2 openingen in België. Ik huil mezelf elke nacht in slaap omdat ik hoogstwaarschijnlijk op het vliegtuig naar New York zal zitten als de 1ste winkel in Antwerpen opengaat (vlakbij de COS aan de Wilde Zee). Ok ok ik overdrijf, New York is fantastisch, maar ik baal toch stiekem wel een beetje. Gelukkig laat de 2de opening in Brussel niet al te lang op zich wachten daar de opening gepland is in juni. 

When a fashion retailer announces they’ll have a beauty range as well I usually don’t think much of it. & Other Stories actually managed to surprise me with their broad range of affordable products of excellent quality. It’s hard to tell what their core business really is. Is it fashion or beauty? A lot of thought has been put in the packaging and how the overall look would fit the brand. I happen to love it. The material is cheap yet it looks classy with its minimalistic style and a little pop of color that seems like watercolor paint, which you’ll also find on the shopping bags.

Wanneer een fashion retailer aankondigt dat ze ook een beautylijn zullen aanbieden, ben ik meestal heel sceptisch. Het ligt immers niet in hun core business en er wordt dan vaak ook naar mijn mening veel te weinig aandacht aan besteed. & Other Stories wist me aangenaam te verrassen met hun zeer uitgebreid gamma aan betaalbare producten van uitstekende kwaliteit. Er werd duidelijk veel aandacht besteed aan de branding en hoe die in het totaalconcept zou passen. Ik ben er helemaal weg van. Het materiaal van de verpakking is goedkoop, maar het ziet er toch classy & clean uit, terwijl dat beetje kleur het geheel net iets extra geeft. De vrolijke waterverf-achtige tekeningen kun je trouwens ook terugvinden op de papieren shopping bags. 

The body mists are only a small part of the entire bath & body range, which has the same fragrances over a different range of products (body cream, hand gel, shower gel, hand cream, body scrub,..). You can easily recognize them by their corresponding colours.  The & Other Stories body mists come in regular spray bottles with an excellent diffusing ability. When you spray, there’s no fluid coming out, only a light mist just as the name promises. The packaging describes the body mists as follows:

“Fast-drying Body Mist with a delicate perfume that instantly re-awakens the senses, leaving mind and body revitalized. Spritz onto bare skin after bathing or showering or for on-the-go mood-boosting refreshment.” All I can say to this is yes, yes and YES!

De body mists maken slechts een heel klein deel uit van wat de bath & body sectie te bieden heeft. De geuren worden doorheen het hele productgamma gebruikt (body cream, hand gel, douchegel, handcrème, body scrub,…) en zijn zeer gemakkelijk te herkennen door de overeenkomende kleuren. De & Other Stories Body Mists zijn verpakt in gewone sprays, maar dan met een uitstekende spraycapaciteit. In plaats van natte druppels af te geven, wordt de vloeistof heel fijn verstuifd, net als een mist. De verpakking beschrijft de body mist als volgt:

“Sneldrogende Body Mist met een delicaat parfum dat meteen de zintuigen opwekt, waardoor lichaam en geest gerevitaliseerd worden. Spray het op de blote huid na het baden of douchen of voor on-the-go voor een mood-stimulerende verfrissing.” Het enige wat ik hierop te zeggen heb is yes, yes & YES!

Up until now I got 3 fragrances: Fig Fiction, Shinjuku Bloom and Equatorial Dreams. The first two are in the main range while ‘Equatorial Dreams’ was a limited edition when the first store in London just opened. It’s such a shame you can’t get this anymore because it smells incredible. They’re launching new ones from time to time, so if you do happen to like a fragrance, don’t hesitate and grab it while you can!

Tot nu toe wist ik 3 geuren te verzamelen: Fig Fiction, Shinjuku Bloom en Equatorial Dreams. De eerste 2 zitten vast in het gamma terwijl ‘Equatorial Dreams’ een limited edition was die in de winkels lag toen de winkel in Londen pas open was. Zo jammer dat je deze niet meer kunt krijgen want hij ruikt echt verrukkelijk! Ik ben er extra zuinig mee. Van tijd tot tijd komen er nieuwe edities op de markt dus als je een geur lekker vindt, zeker niet twijfelen en gewoon meteen meenemen voor het te laat is!

Don’t ask me to pick a favorite, because I simply can’t (believe me, I’ve tried). I think each fragrance has a certain charm depending on the season. Right now, I’m preferring the Shinjuku bloom, as it is currently “Hanami” or cherry blossom season in Japan, where this fragrance originated. Equatorial dreams is a great scent for those balmy summer nights and Fig Fiction is the perfect pick for Autumn. Since I have these I seem to be picking them over my perfumes because they’re so light and airy and make you feel instantly refreshed and revitalized.

Vraag me niet om een favoriet te kiezen, want dat kan ik niet (ik heb het geprobeerd hoor). Ik vind dat elke geur zijn eigen charme heeft afhankelijk van het seizoen. Momenteel graai ik steeds naar Shinjuku Bloom aangezien het momenteel “Hanami” of kersenbloesemseizoen is in Japan, waar de geur oorspronkelijk vandaan komt. Het is de perfecte geur voor de lente, heerlijk licht en fris. Equatorial Dreams is een geur die de perfecte touch zou zijn voor de zwoele zomeravonden terwijl Fig Fiction echt een favorietje is voor in de herfst. Sinds ik deze heb laat ik mijn parfums eerder links liggen. De Body Mists zijn gewoon zo heerlijk licht en luchtig. Ze geven je onmiddellijk een fris en herboren gevoel, iets wat een parfum niet snel zal doen omdat het toch net wat te zwaar is.

As you might’ve noticed, I’m so in love with these to the point where my perfumes will start to feel neglected. I’d recommend anyone who has a love for light and fresh scents to try one out. Look at me, I started with one and only 1 year later this is the result. One thing’s for sure though, when I get back from NY the first chance I get I’ll go to the new & Other Stories store to stock up on some more fragrances for sure! A bottle will give you 150 ml for £ 12 / € 15 and will last you a long long time. Now they also have mini versions (50 ml) which are more handbag-friendly for £ 5 / € 7.

Zoals je vast wel al hebt gemerkt ben ik echt dol op de Body Mists van & Other Stories (mijn parfums voelen zich vast verwaarloosd) en ik zou dan ook iedereen die van frisse geuren houdt aanraden om er eens eentje te proberen. Ik ben ook gestart met 1 en nog geen jaar later is dit het resultaat. Eén ding staat vast, van zodra ik terug ben van New York is het eerste wat ik doe me naar de &OS reppen om nog wat geuren in te slaan! Een flesje levert je 150 ml op voor € 12 waar je lang van zult kunnen genieten. Nu biedt men ook mini versies aan (50 ml) die iets handtas vriendelijker zijn voor € 7.
