Skinfood Peach Sake Silky Finish Powder

If you have combination-to-oily skin and have trouble keeping your makeup on all day, a setting or finishing powder is really what you need. I’m usually hesitant to use powders because I’m afraid to lose my natural glow and end up with cakey makeup, but for this gem I’ll gladly make an exception. Meet the Skinfood Peach Sake Silky Finish Powder!

Skinfood is one of the most well-known Korean roadshop brands out there and they have stores all over Asia. If you’ve ever been to any of their stores, you probably know how overwhelming their offering can be if it’s your first time to try out their products. During my trip to Seoul I was able to cherrypick some of their products to review and one of them was this funny looking finishing powder that reminded me of the Japanese sake barrels (or dim sum in a way..). Made out of plastic and cardboard, I wouldn’t say it’s the nicest packaging out there, but the vintage aspect did attract me. Despite the cute packaging, I did curse sometimes when big clouds of powder escaped as I tried to put the lid back on.

The reason it is shaped like a sake barrel is because it actually contains rice ferment filtrate (sake). It’s very faint, but you can actually catch a whiff of sake covered by a big cloud of sweet peach baby powder scent. I think its lovely, but it won’t be for everyone.

Inside it carries a really soft puff which I don’t use because I’m too afraid to ruin it with my foundation. Stupid really, especially since you can just buy new puffs in case they get too dirty. I usually pour a little bit onto my hand and pick it up with a soft fluffy brush before applying it to my t-zone. Make sure to apply it lightly to maintain a natural looking finish. If you have a darker skin tone, it might end up looking ashy, but for fair to medium skin tones this is absolutely great.

The Skinfood Peach Sake Silky Finish Powder absorbs any excess oil without sucking the life out of your skin like some powders do. It also sets the base makeup in place to make it last for hours. Moreover, the skin looks and feels silky smooth thanks to the ultra fine particles. I do need to re-apply after a couple of hours to keep my sebum in check, but at least my makeup doesn’t look cakey.

Unfortunately it has come to my attention that this affordable finishing powder is no longer available (Skinfood has confirmed this has been discontinued), BUT they released the Peach Cotton Multi Finish Powder to replace it, a reformulated and supposedly even better finishing powder! I have yet to try out the new version, but if it’s as good as they say, you won’t be disappointed. For now I’ll just enjoy my Peach Sake powder for a little while, because besides the affordable price, its 15 g of product is also very economical in use.
