What are your new year’s resolutions for 2020? Perhaps it’s going to the gym more often, spend more time with loved ones or to save more money. While I think all of the above a great, have you thought about sticking to a makeup tool cleaning routine this year? If you can’t remember the last time you cleaned your brushes, it’s about time you get to it!
Apologies for sounding like your nagging mom right now, but I’ve been seeing way to many makeup stash videos on youtube with hundreds of dirty tools lying around that I thought it was time to state the facts: dirty tools are breeding grounds for (deadly) bacteria such as E.coli.. aka the kind you don’t want anywhere near your face. Don’t get me wrong, I know we all have better things to do in our busy lives and it’s just one of those chores you love to postpone. I hear ya. But what if I told you there’s a way you could speed up the process and do a better job at the same time?
Before this discovery I was your average makeup lover, wasting more than 1 hour every Sunday washing my brushes one by one with nothing but some brush cleanser or shampoo and my bare hands. That was until I discovered the Sigma Express Brush Cleaning Mat: The bright pink silicone mat that you place in your sink using the suction cups on the back to stay still as you swirl multiple brushes – yes multiple brushes – at once across its many structures. Just add a little bit of brush cleaner, shampoo, or – a budget tip from me- hotel bar soap for a nice deep clean.
Some structures work better for certain types of brushes than others, but both the washing and rinsing process just goes so much faster since I started to use this mat. Moreover, the brushes are a lot cleaner too. I still clean them once a week but it only takes me about 15 minutes tops. The only thing you need to make sure of is to clean the mat afterwards as well. My tip here is to let it soak in a lukewarm bath with some antibacterial soap (like Dettol).
