Shhh… Here Come The Color Whispers

Let me introduce you to some of the (many) lippies I picked up during my stay in New York; the Maybelline Color Whispers. And nope, there’s no news about them coming to Belgium/Europe yet unfortunately, but who knows what might happen? The Color Wispers were all everyone over in the US talked about last year, so when I finally set foot on US soil I just had to grab a couple and try them myself.

The Maybelline Color Whisper by Color Sensational Lipsticks are gel lipsticks with soft pigmentation (hence the name whisper) that come in 20 different shades. I’d get them all if I could, but I managed to hold myself back and decide on these 4: an old rose nude, a peachy red, a pale nude and a bright pink. The packaging is simple and lightweight, aka perfect to throw in your handbag and reapply during the day. The cap of each lipstick has a different colour that is supposed to resemble the colour of the lipstick. Because there are no testers at the US drugstore it is kind of hard to tell how the actual lipstick looks like, which forces you to ‘open’ one. On the other hand, US drug stores have way better policies when it comes to returning products you don’t like. Luckily I had looked up some swatches online before I left, so I knew exactly which ones I wanted.

After the first application it was already clear I was going to like these. They’re incredibly smooth balms that give a nice touch of colour to the lips. Kind of like the transparency and sheen of a gloss, minus the stickiness. Because of the subtle colour, they’re perfect for every occasion. The lips end up looking juicy and moisturized, even when the condition of the lips isn’t that good (see lip swatches below). They feel slick and weightless thanks to the silicone gel base and don’t set onto the lips. This makes them not as long-lasting (about 3 hrs), but I don’t really mind because I prefer how comfortable they feel. The lighter shades are definitely fool-proof because they’re so sheer and you can even apply them without a mirror. The deeper shades need some extra attention because they’re more pigmented and the colour is not locked-in.

The swatches may look rather similar, but in real life there’s a noticeable difference between the colours. One Size Fits Pearl is a true ‘your lips but better’ nude shade. The color payoff is minimal, but it does make a noticeable difference. Lust for blush is a darker rosy nude, Petal Rebel is a bright barbie pink and Pin Up Peach is a bright coral red. I find that the darker the colour, the more pigmented the lipstick is. They’re also quite buildable. I’ve been keeping at least one of these in my bag throughout the month of August and I love to reapply them as I go. They’re moisturizing, pretty and easy to apply. Personally, I’d prefer these over the Baby Lips any day. I’m hoping to see them in this continent soon because I’d like to add some more to my collection.

Vorig jaar waren deze kleurrijke lippenstiften/balsems dé hype onder de US bloggers & Youtubers, dus toen ik eindelijk in de US was moest ik er gewoon enkele meenemen.  Ze zijn helaas (nog) niet te koop in België/Europa, maar wie weet wat er nog aankomt? De Color Whispers zijn verkrijgbaar in maar liefst 20 prachtige kleuren en hebben een zachte formule op gel basis. Ze hebben een lichte tint al kun je ze wel goed opbouwen tot een medium dekking voor de donkere kleuren. Ze hechten zich niet vast aan de lippen, dus erg lang blijven ze niet zitten (zo’n 3 uur). Daartegenover staat wel dat de Color Whispers heel zacht zijn en je lippen mooi hydrateren. Bovendien geven ze ook een mooie glans waardoor je lippen er meteen al gezonder gaan uitzien (mijn lippen waren echt kapot bij het swatchen).

De Maybelline Color Whispers zijn mijn favorieten voor wanneer ik een subtiel kleurtje wil dat ik naar hartelust kan aanbrengen zonder spiegel (toch zeker voor de lichtere tinten) en zonder de plakkerigheid van een lipgloss. Ik ben alvast fan en zou deze dan ook verkiezen over de Baby Lips. Nu nog hopen dat ze hier ook het licht zullen zien want ik wil mijn collectie nog wat aanvullen!
