Outfit | Proud as a Peacock

There are some days that I really wish I lived somewhere else, especially when it’s raining cats and dogs; the kind of weather we’re all too familiar with in Belgium. It’s incredible how the  weather has such strong impact on the mood of people, even in such a way it’s the number °1 subject of small talk. But this week I couldn’t care less..

No, this week I am –more than ever– proud to be a Belgian because our very own Raf Simons (previously working at Jil Sander) was appointed creative director of Dior, after months of speculations after John Galliano was fired due to anti-semitic statements last year. I doubt this is a subject that will come up at my local bakery, but for the fashion world it’s a done deal; all eyes are on Raf now and everyone’s curious what he’s going to do with the luxury label that has been around since the forties. Now there are two Belgians at the helm of Dior; Kris van Assche designs the men’s line and now Raf Simons does the same for the women’s line. Can I get a wh00p wh00p?!

I find it truly UH-MAZING how such a small nation can provide so much talent and I think it’s about time everyone recognizes that Belgium isn’t just all about chocolate, beer, french fries, manneken pis, the atomium and whatever Belgium is known for across the borders. In fact, I’m surprised –sometimes even shocked– how little Belgians know about designers from their homeland, making me believe that these designers get more credit from the world than their compatriots. Not that I’m much of an expert, but if you haven’t even heard of the Antwerp Six it’s time you book a fashion tour with Tanguy. So, my fellow Belgian residents, I will conclude my little speech by saying you really should be just as proud of Raf as you were of Tom Boonen last weekend, because what Raf -and many designers before him- have achieved is really, I mean REALLY something to be proud of!

Denim shirt, jersey dress and fedora hat: H&M — Floral skirt: Zara — Sunnies: Ray Ban
Mouse flats: Marc by Marc Jacobs
— Messenger bag: River Island — Necklace: Forever 21
Bracelet: DIY — Watch: Swatch — Ring: Accessorize

Hope you guys like my outfit. I took these pics two weeks back when it was up to 24°! I actually made a last minute outfit change because it was so hot. In the initial one I was all buttoned up and I wore my white floral necklace from Marni x H&M on top. Well, that didn’t last long.. :’) Oh, how I long for those temperatures to come back! I will post a pic of it afterwards, but now I’m off on a shopping spree to Lille! In the meantime feel free to comment! 😉
