It’s early July when these two are dropped on my doorstep: the Nivea Make-Up Removers for under the shower. The first question that arose is “Wait.. so I’m not supposed to use my current make-up removers under the shower? What is so special about these? Here’s what Nivea says..
“45% Of Belgian women uses makeup regularly and 58% cleanses the face with just water.” Now hold up. I’m pretty confident that as a reader of beauty blogs, you won’t be making this mistake. But please tell your friends and family they really need to use a proper cleanser to wash their face. Only that way they can get rid of leftover residue from skin care, make-up and other environmental factors. Let’s get everyone informed and pull that number down for the next survey. But I digress.. let’s continue.
In order to avoid the annoying panda eyes which often happen when cleansing, Nivea came up with the Make-Up Removers for under the shower. For normal to combo skin, there’s a formula with Vitamin E (anti-oxidant) while the formula for dry and sensitive skin has almond oil for extra hydration. The texture of hydrogel and oleogel allows you to to ditch the cotton pad, even for waterproof makeup. You massage it in while under the shower, starting with the eyelids and -contours before continuing to the rest of the face. Rinse and you’re done.
Ingredients: Aqua, Isododecane, Glycerin, Isopropyl Palmitate, Tapioca Starch, Cetearyl Alcohol, Poloxamer 124, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glyceryl Glucoside, Sodium Polyacrylate, Xanthan Gum, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Phenoxyethanol, Piroctone Olamine, Linalool, Limonene, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Citronellol, Geraniol, Parfum.
The texture of the Nivea Make-Up Removers is a bit weird. It feels like a thick gel that is quite sticky. I lather it on my face let it sit for a minute before massaging my face. Because of the stickiness, I find it necessary to go over my face with a wet cleansing cloth in order to get everything off properly. One thing I don’t recommend is to use it on your eyelids. I got it in my eyes twice and it wasn’t very pleasant. Moreover, it didn’t succeed in removing all of my mascara and it wasn’t even waterproof.
Overall these new make-up removers from Nivea weren’t able to persuade me. The whole concept seems gimmicky to me and I just love my oil and balm cleansers so much more. I can use them whenever-wherever, they’re super effective and won’t irritate my eyes. So why change a winning team, right? Have you tried these make-up removers from Nivea and what did you think?
