Even after 8 years of blogging, I’m still not immune to gimmicky looking products. In fact, having a blog might actually even encourage ‘irresponsible’ purchases from time to time. However, a positive experience with the cushion compact of the same line did give me high hopes for the Holika Holika Face 2 Change Liquid Roller BB.
Packaged in what resembles a taser, the Liquid Roller BB is by far the weirdest BB cream I have ever used. You dispense product by pressing the two buttons on the side while rolling the sponge over your face. Although this way of applying is unique, it’s very unwieldy to handle, especially in narrow areas. Dispensing the right amount of product while rolling around your face is surprisingly hard, which gets the roller jammed in the process sometimes.
It also applies a little streaky at times, so a touch-up with a beauty sponge or cushion applicator afterwards is advised. For those who are wondering about the hygiene aspect, fear not, it comes with a spare sponge and you can clean it.
Besides the fact that the Holika Holika Face 2 Change Liquid Roller BB only has SPF 30 PA++ (compared to the SPF 50 PA+++), I expected the formula to be the same of the Cushion BB, but it turned out to be quite different. There’s something liberating about using Korean base products to me since I never have to worry about the colour being too dark. And with #21 this is once again the case. Although it’s a little grey, it looks pretty natural and brightening on the skin with its light to medium coverage. Some of my bigger blemishes still peep through, but as long as my skin looks natural I’m pretty okay with that. Just a little concealer on those areas and done.
I love how it smooths over my enlarged pores and puts a soft veil on my skin to make the unevenness in my skin less noticeable. Unlike the cushion compact, the Face 2 Change Liquid Roller BB has more of a semi-matte finish which makes the product cling to my dry patches after a few hours. Therefore this might be a product more for oily skin types rather than dry-to-normal skin types.
Overall, I think this is an okay product but I don’t love it enough to repurchase. The way of applying is too much of a hassle and I’d rather use a cushion compact instead as this gets the job done faster and just as good. Furthermore, this product looked great in the beginning but didn’t hold up long enough for my tastes. I would recommend to keep the roller with you to reapply during the day or do as I do, follow up with the Face 2 Change Photo Ready Cushion BB for some glow.
