Fall is by far my favourite makeup season. Warm chocolate brown, burgundy and greige tones are my colours of choice and these typically appear in Fall collections. This Fall however, the metallic trend really starts to kick in, giving these shades a new dimension. Dior put this trend on a pedestal with their latest Dior Metallics Fall 2017 collection.
One of the products that intrigued me from the moment I saw the preview of the new collection was the Metalizer Eyes & Lips. Inspired by professional makeup but designed as an intuitive, take-anywhere product, Metalizer Eyes & Lips contains metal-effect pigments encapsulated in an ultra-creamy, quick-drying texture. You can apply it with your finger for a subtle chrome effect or use a brush for a more intense effect.
I tried the Metalizer in 678 Bronze Tension, a brown shade that leans towards grey and green. If you’re expecting full blown metallics, you might be disappointed. It has some metallic shimmer but is nothing like the metallics we’ve seen with the Dior Addict Fluid Shadows, which were released 2 years ago. Dior claims the formula can last up to 12 hours, which is something I think might be possible, but I haven’t been able to try. Once applied, I can feel the product grabbing onto the lids as it dries down, which feels slightly irritating. Once dry the stingy feeling is gone.
Because this is a rather dark cream product that dries to a powdery finish, I find it a bit hard to blend out the edges evenly. It’s not a product I would pick for a quick make-up look. However, when you do get it right it stays put for hours. I have quite oily lids and it took me about 6 hours before I felt like I could use a little touch-up around my crease. But it still looked pretty good. I would love to try this product in lighter shades.
May I present to you, the lipstick that made me fall in love with metallic lips.. Dior launched their iconic 999 orange-red shade with a metallic finish and it’s simply the pretties thing. Rouge Dior 999 Metallic is the shade for everyone that is not too keen on the whole metallic lips trend, but wants to give it a try. The subtle metallic sheen adds just the right amount of radiance to the lip without making the flamboyant red lose its elegant status. So chic!
Such a deep pigmented red shade usually requires some artistry, but the sharp edges of the lipstick bullet make application incredibly easy. Because it’s rather creamy I do recommend using a lip pencil to contour the lips to prevent it from bleeding. The formula is very comfortable to wear, even when your lips are a little dry. Definitely a favourite!
The Fall collection also offers 3 new metallic shades of Dior Vernis. 612 Metallics is a pretty metallic gunmetal grey shade. If you don’t already have a similar shade and love the Dior Vernis formula, this would make a nice addition to your collection.
For the sake of this blog post, I wore everything all at once just to give you an impression of how the products can look like on your skin. I tend to not go overboard with the metallics (or colour makeup in general) and wear them separately, but how you want to wear them is of course completely up to you.
If there’s one thing I would recommend taking a look at out of the 3 products I have tried, it’s the lipstick. It’s a classic shade that looks good on every skin tone and you’ll be able to wear long after the metallic hype has passed.
