Catrice Illuminating / Bronzing Highlighter Pen

The highlighter hype isn’t dying anytime soon and I am constantly looking for the next best thing to give my face a touch of light. I haven’t tried many cream highlighters and these Catrice highlighter pens seemed like just the perfect tools to try.

Even though they feel light, Catrice did a pretty good job at the packaging of the Catrice Highlighter Pens. The black and chrome metallic look immediately caught my eye. The collections change quite often but I believe there are still 2 colours available: Bronzing (orange metallic) and Illuminating (pink metallic). They’re packaged in twist-up pens which have a synthetic brush tip. The first time will require a lot of twisting but be careful as a lot of product might come out at once and you can’t twist it back. I actually like the idea of a pen format. Just twist, draw or stipple the product on and dab to blend. Not to mention they’re travel-friendly.

Catrice Illuminating Highlighter Pen
“Liquid silver-pink highlighter that creates a radiant complexion and a silky-soft glow. Dot and blend onto cheek- and brow bones.” I prefer to use this one on the brow bones as it will really brighten up my eyes and define the arch. Much to my surpriset’s quite cool and visible (almost white).

Catrice Bronzing Highlighter Pen
“Liquid golden bronze highlighter that a creates a sun-kissed complexion and a naturally bronzed glow.” Even though I’m very fair, this still works for my summer skin tone.

The colours were quite okay but it’s the formula I’m not that impressed with. The Illuminating Highlighter Pen is more watery than the Bronzing Highlighter Pen for starters. You don’t really need much product and you have to work quickly.

The real deal breaker for me is however that it didn’t blend in nicely with my skin. The cheek area is quite dry so by the end of the day I would be left with visible streaks of highlighter that looked like it was laying on top of my skin, rather than a nice glow from within.

These seem to be getting a lot of good reviews online but unfortunately weren’t able to convince me. Therefore I won’t be recommending them and will continue my search for a good cream highlighter that is fast and easy to work with. Any suggestions?
