Beauty | Take Me To Dior’s Grand Bal

If you’ve visited a beauty store in the past few weeks, chances are you stopped by the Christian Dior display. This year’s Grand Bal collection has everything a magpie like me could ever want from a Holiday collection. Metallic shimmers in gold and silver augmented with ravishing reds make up a collection that revives the old Hollywood glamour. In other words, they’re the perfect makeup tools to create the ultimate holiday look.

At the moment I’m still trying to get a hold of the items I want (check my wish list here), which hasn’t been the easiest task because not all stores carry this collection and a lot of the items are already sold out. So if you want to get something from this collection you’d better hurry! In the meantime I have some swatches for you.

For starters I’d like to say this is the most beautiful nail polish bottle I have ever seen. It kind of looks like an ornament ball, ready to hang up in the Xmas tree. Lady is a frosty white with pearlescent finish (which my camera failed to capture -_-), which can be tough to handle for some because it can get streaky very quickly if you’re not careful. It’s a beautiful elegant shade that will look its best on a colored skin.

Unfortunately the Grand Bal polishes don’t have the recent Dior wide tapered applicator brush, but the thin brush doesn’t give me too much trouble. Lady is quite runny and transparent, so it takes 3 thin coats and a steady hand to get the look above and even then it’s not fully opaque. I’d also recommend to use a top coat afterwards to make it last up to 7 days.

#037 Diorling is a vibrant cherry red with a touch of pink and a natural sheen. It really stands out, so you need to be comfortable with statement reds to wear it. I got a couple of awkwardly long stares when I wore this to the store. (Seriously, people aren’t used to ANYTHING around here). The shade is highly pigmented, which occasionally leaves some traces on my teeth (very sexy *cough*) and everything else it touches, but at the same time it’s also incredibly long-lasting (up to 7 hours). It’s formula is not as hydrating as the the one of the Dior Addict lipsticks, but its still moisturizing enough to make it through the day. Just make sure your lips are is a good shape before applying. Again, the lipstick is housed in a limited edition, vintage gold edition which makes this a total must-have.

Conclusion: Though I’m not entirely convinced by the Lady nail polish, it definitely piqued my interest for the other polishes. They’re just too pretty (and more likely to fit my skin tone). Out of these 2 products, I’d have to say the Diorling is my favorite. It’s well-pigmented and glamorous shade can make anyone feel like a thousand bucks ..eh euros. And with a pretty packaging like that the price tag is just a small detail. A great gift to give and receive.
