Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Cushion

It’s early 2015 when Lancôme releases its Miracle Cushion. The launch of this innovative compact wonder unleashed a chain reaction of cushion foundation launches in the Western beauty world, one that is sure to continue in 2017. The Lancôme Miracle Cushion was praised by many, but as the current base trend in the West still is matte, flawless skin, many felt like they were missing coverage. A year and a half later Lancôme delivers with the launch of the Teint Idole Ultra Cushion.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the packaging is that although the compact size has been maintained, the packaging of the Teint Idole Ultra Cushion looks far more luxurious than that of the Miracle Cushion. The top is gold and slightly rounded and the bottom is black. It looks stunning. Just like the Miracle Cushion, the compact is refillable. Not only does this create less waste, it’s a convenient way to change shades when your skin colour changes during winter/summer.

Don’t let the big box fool you though: this time the foundation is wrapped separately, so you won’t get an extra refill. But it does help to prevent the cushion from drying out before you even have the chance to start using it.

Another thing that is different from before is the velvet puff applicator which feels soft on the skin and doesn’t soak up too much product.

The Teint Idole Ultra cushion sponge looks totally different from the cushion foundations I have tried so far. Unlike the usual squishy sponges, this one is composed out of weaved stiff fibres that help preserve the product. The network of fibres is activated upon the first use of the cushion and makes sure the foundation is applied more evenly. Getting the right dose is so much easier and a little really goes a long way.

Unlike the Miracle Cushion, the Teint Idole Ultra Cushion is based on an existing formula, that of the popular Teint Idole liquid foundation. This is probably why Lancôme opted to produce this cushion in France rather than Korea, where the cushion compacts – and also the Miracle Cushion and Lancôme cushion blushers- originate from.

As for the formula itself, it is very pigmented and buildable. I don’t wear this cushion every day, but on days where I need the extra coverage this has been a well loved base. It covers up most of my blemishes, redness and helps fade some dark spots as well. For a high coverage foundation I was surprised at how lightweight it was.

It has a matte finish, yet maintains the natural glow of the face. It does get a little dry around certain areas after a while, but it’s very long wearing. At this point I wouldn’t repurchase simply because 01 Pure Porcelain is too dark for me. If Lancôme has plans to release some new shades I will gladly take a second look. Definitely one to try if you ask me!
