Son & Park Beauty Water

The Son & Park Beauty Water is no stranger to anyone that has a slightest bit of interest in K-beauty. Ever since it launched, it has been the center of attention when it comes to k-beauty fan favourites. Part of the hype is because this was created by two famous South-Korean makeup artists; Son Day Sik and Park Tae Yun. But to find the reason for its success, we’ll have to investigate a little further.

First, let’s have a look at the packaging. Minimalism has been all the rage for a couple of years now (think Aesop, The Ordinary, Glossier, ..) and Son & Park have definitely noticed. The sleek transparent bottle with matte frosty finish and limited text looks like something any skincare enthousiast should have on shelf.

So what is a beauty water? Since Korea likes to name their products differently, the first thing that comes to mind is micellar water. So you could compare it and say it’s the Asian equivalent of Bioderma, but a peek at the ingredients list unveils it’s more than that. It’s a multi-tasker that belongs in anyone’s makeup kit – professional or not.

The Son & Park Beauty Water can be used:

  • As a makeup remover. This works fine as a makeup remover for non-waterproof makeup. However if you have a lot of (waterproof) makeup on that is hard to remove, you might want to switch to an actual micellar water or even an oil. I like to use this when I don’t have a lot of makeup on.
  • As an after-cleanse toner. You can also use it after cleansing, as a way to remove impurities and prep your skin for what’s to come. With a pH level of 4.5-5, this balances the skin quite nicely and dries quickly without leaving any residue. It’s mildly exfoliating thanks to willow bark and papaya extract and subtly hydrates the skin because of the lavender water, rose water and orange fruit extract.
  • As a prep product before makeup. The Beauty Water may also be used before applying your makeup. It’s a great way to clear off sebum or sweat before going trough with the routine while brightening skin at the same time.
  • As a mid-day skin refresher. I love using this during the day as a way to remove sebum or to refresh during the day without having to start my entire routine all over again. I’ll mostly use a cotton pad but since this is a light fluid, you can also put it in a spray bottle.

Conclusion: Although this doesn’t replace micellar water or cleansing oil when it comes to removing makeup, the benefits of the Beauty Water are definitely there when you look at the ingredients list and how the product performs. The skin looks refreshed after each use which you’ll definitely appreciate if you have combination to oily skin. After continuously using the product for a while, you can also start to notice the skin becoming brighter and more supple.

I loved using this product, although I still think it’s a bit pricey. Do pick this up and give it a go if you plan to go to South-Korea.
