Givenchy L’Autre Noir Autumn Winter 2017

Givenchy’s L’Autre Noir Autumn Winter 2017 collection – or ‘The Other Black’ collection – plays on the idea of a black that is anything but dark. The range offers a selection of mostly eye & lip products packaged in Givenchy’s signature black. I tried a couple of products and will share my thoughts with you today!

Givenchy Le Rouge Lipstick

In the lip category we have 7 new additions to the Givenchy Le Rouge lipstick range, which now counts 27 shades. This lipstick is an old favourite of mine and I have collected quite a few of them. The black leather and silver detail casing is one of a kind and the creamy formula feels very comfy on the lips thanks to the beeswax and hyaluronic acid. The lipsticks also have a delicate powdery perfume of mimosa, black berries and benzoin, a scent that is unmistakably Givenchy. Although I’d rather keep my makeup fragrance-free, I will admit I really like the scent.

Out of the 3 new colours I have tried (109 Brun Casual, 324 Corail Backstage & 326 Pourpre Edgy), Brun Casual was the one that stood out to me the most. It fits perfectly in the current 90’s brown lip trend and is perfectly wearable for every day. I was surprised to find a brown shade that actually fit my skin tone and I’ve been wearing this almost every day.

Givenchy Le Rouge Sculpt Two-Tone Lipstick

The star of the AW17 collection is without a doubt Le Rouge Sculpt Two-Tone Lipstick, which comes in 5 stylish shades. Each lipstick features 2 ton-sur-ton colours where the core shade highlights the center of the lips while the darker shade accentuates the contour of the lips. Le Rouge Sculpt creates contrast, contours lips, and adds volume. For me personally, the contours are a bit harsh if you apply the lipstick directly, so I would blend them a bit using a lip brush or finger afterwards. The formula is fairly similar to that of Le Rouge. It’s pigmented, creamy  and is comfortable to wear.

Although most Western versions of the two-toned lipstick are made to contour and fill the lips in one swipe, they have drawn inspiration from the Korean gradient lip, which has gained interest worldwide. So if you want, you can actually turn the Le Rouge Sculpt around and use it to create that I-just-had-a-popsicle look, as illustrated above. Because of its technical application, its not a product you’ll be swiping on in 2 seconds without using a mirror, but it’s a very cool concept. I just wished it had more variation in the shades (a nude, a brick red or burgundy colour would have been lovely for Autumn).

Givenchy Lip Liner in °12 Universel Noir Révélateur

For those who are looking for a softer contour, the Universal Noir Révélateur Lip Liner might be of help. Formulated with eosin, this is a color-enhancing black lip liner sprinkled with a hint of silver sparkles. The colour comes off as a super sheer gray, so the contour will only be noticeable on lighter shades. I tried it with the Le Rouge Brunettes Casual lipstick as shown below. It applies a little too patchy to use all over the lip though.

Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow in 20 Rosy Black

The Ombre Couture eyeshadow in Rosy Black is a black-based cream eyeshadow that’s packed with sparkly purple glitters. It’s a pretty pigmented formula but the texture is a little dry, making it very hard to blend. In turn, it did stay put on my lids during the day. I will hang onto it because I love the colour so much (it looks a lot more beautiful and iridescent irl), but it’s definitely not a product I can take my time with on an everyday basis.

Givenchy Liner Vinyl Eyeliner in 6 Rosy Black

The Vinyl Eyeliner in Rosy Black is pretty much the Rosy Black eyeshadow in a liner. Housed in a lacquered black tube, this is a black liquid eye liner that is packed with purple glitter sparkles. The formulation is on the thicker side but the pigmentation is very good. The tiny tapered brush allows for a precise application but the formulation is not water- or smudgeproof.

Out of all of the products from the Givenchy Autumn Winter 2917 range, I would definitely recommend you to try one of the lipsticks if you haven’t already tried one of the Le Rouge lipsticks. Even after all these years, I still enjoy them as much as when they first launched. I enjoyed using the eye products as well, although I might use them for more festive occasions rather than every day.
