We’ve all been there; you have an important event coming up and suddenly you discover an unwelcome guest on your face who is ready to party along. Here are my current 3 go-to products to get rid of pimples fast.
Before I get started I’d like to point out that it’s really important to try and not pick your blemishes in order to avoid making it even worse. If you somehow couldn’t resist doing it anyway and the blemish is now open, I’d advise to wait with these products for a day or 2 and disinfect it first with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol you can get at the pharmacy and let it heal a little bit first.
If not then congratulations, you’ve made it to stage 2! Please proceed..
The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil (10 ml – € 10)
Night-time is a crucial time for skin recovery as skin cells are regenerated and renewed while you sleep. This is why I’ll mostly use these kind of blemish-busters during my evening routine. Tea tree oil is a well known ingredient for battling blemishes due to its powerful anti-bacterial and healing properties. The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil is a popular budget alternative that works really well for large zones of blemishes because it is quite strong. The scent can be off-putting but the result is totally worth it.
This is the most liquidy formula out of the 3 so it gets absorbed into the skin rather quickly. How fast the blemishes disappear will depend on the size of the blemish, but I can advise to use it as soon as you think a pimple is about to show its ugly head. This doesn’t dry out the skin as much as the next one, but I’d still recommend to dab it on precisely where you need it with a cotton swab before you go to bed.
Available at The Body Shop.
Origins Super Spot Remover Blemish Treatment Gel (10 ml – € 18)
This is probably the most expensive blemish treatment gel I’ve ever owned, but since it actually works it’s a price I’m willing to pay. It contains salicylic acid which instantly helps heal, while anti spot technology helps to correct post blemish marks. It also contains caffeine and red algae to help relieve redness. To help keep skin looking spotless it also has super exfoliants to keep dead skin cells at bay and to ensure the skin is clear of clogged pores.
This is a treatment I’ll only wear during the night as it may look a little messy & dry around the spot where you apply it. You can actually feel it tighten the skin and drying out the spot as it dries. If you do want to wear it during the day because you want to be cleared of those breakouts really fast, I’d suggest the next option.
Origins is available at Parfuma.
Urgo Filmogel Pimples* (2 ml – € 14)
Urgo’s Filmogel Pimples is the one to go for if you want to wear makeup on top. It’s a twist-up pen with a silicone tip which you need to use to apply onto the pimple directly. After 1 or 2 minutes, in contact with the air, a protective and purifying film (salicylic acid and tea tree essential oil) is formed, isolating the pimple and promoting disappearance. Because there’s an invisible film on top of the pimple, makeup can’t reach it to make it worse than it already is.
I like the format of this as well as it’s easy to carry around in your bag and re-apply throughout the day without having to use your fingers. Hygiene is everything when it comes to battling breakouts!
Available at the apothecary.
Please note that these products will only help with temporary breakouts, these don’t actually cure acne! I’ll do a post on how I got rid of my acne if there is any interest.
Do you use any pimple busters?
